I'm thinking of getting a performance standard cymbal pack that comes with a bag but have a limited budget (around £100) to spend on it. I've got an oppurtunity to get a set of Sabian B8's for £99 but this is online so i won't get the chance to try them out.

Are Sabian B8's decent cymbals? If not can you recomend any other cymbal packs?

I've got the alchemy box set. I got it for 200 dollars american but i'm sure it's probaly cheaper else where. I asolutely love them. I even got a splash for next to nothing just for buying it. Just a bit of advice.

Save your money and buy pro-end cymbals. It'd be worth it

^ You didnt answer the question. If he wanted to save up, hed have said it.

B8s are good from my experience but Paiste 302s are better IMO

Uhh so by your logic you cant give advice unless youre picking it from a list? And not just any list, but a list given to you by the person seeking the advice?

Do us all a favour, never become any kind of advisor.

Cheap cymbals can be tempting but they just dont match up to professional standard ones

yeah i've played sabian B8's and i hated them, if i had to buy some cymbals with your budget i'd go with zildjian zbt's or paiste 302's. but i agree with Vannaroth its cheaper in the long run to just save up for high end cymbals. hope this helped:thumb:

It is cheaper to save up for individual cymbals in the long run, but then you'd have only hihats for the price of hats, ride, and two crashes.

B8 > zbt.

Never ever buy a zbt or zxt.

Save up some extra and get the pro sonix set

i wouldr ecomend B8's over zaildjian ZBT or sabian solar (not sure about paiste 302 as i have never sued them, but if they are anything like 502 i wouldnt use them)

but if you can wait, save you money a bit to try and get some Sabian pro or pro sonix, i love those (even though they arent high end)

B8's are the best begginer cymbals by far, they can all pass for decent cymbals exept for the ride. I played a couple of shows with the splash, it wasn't loud enough, I played about 20 shows with the rock ride and it was fine. The hats are okay also not exactly top of the line but decent. The ride is meh, still better then ZBT's. Get it if your on a budget and a begginner.

some years ago I played on 302's.
The 20" ride was completely rubbish.
16" crash was not good either, but not that bad.
Hihats on the other hand was actually quite decent.

Now i use Custom A's and one 18" B8 Thin crash, it's very good for that prize.
From what i've heard i really would consider B8's. I think they're great cymbals for a low cost.

B8s are good for begginer, and the sound gets a bit better with time (y), waaay better than zbt and zxt

B8's are pretty decent beginner cymbals. And yes, they do sound a bit better as they get older. My friend has b8's that are several years old now and they sound better than mine which are less than 2 years old.
I think they sound better than ZBT's and ZXT's. I haven't tried any other beginner cymbals though so I can't really say much else.

If your gonna buy inexpensive cymbals them just go with Wuhan, I would say thats the best bet. I love my s series crashes and my china for the price. Better than b8's in my opinion.:thumb:

I hate B8's. If I were you I would definitely save a up a little more money and get some pro level cymbals. Other than that, Wuhan's aren't too bad.

Too late :( :'( I wish I knew about this forum before I bought my cymbals. NO, instead I had to listen to sum boob who said they are good! :( Now I'm saving up all over again!

Go a little bit higher to B8Pros. They sound a hell of a lot better than B8s. I use them on my practice kit as X hats and crash and they sound pretty decent. The crash is my favorite out of both of them though.

Look for stagg cymbals, at drumwright they have a pack that is £69.00, but you only get a 18'' crash, and 14'' hats. Or pay £102, and you get a 16'' Crash, 14'' Hats and 20'' Ride. (Also, you get a cymbal bag with either set).

I got paiste 101 hats, crash and ride and 2 boom stands for £99. They are pretty good if you don't have an enormous amount to spend.

Save up more money and go for paiste 2002's or if you don't want to save go for wuhans. B8's are very mediocre.

Hey, do you realize how expensive 2oo2s are? Theyre a few hundred more than B8s!

If hes not a pro-level player why wait longer and save to get pro level cymbals right now?

Because then when he gets to being a pro-level player he won't have to buy new cymbals. :p

I think If you cant find wuhan then get those, but B8's are very nice

Thanx for all the advice, I'm kind of at a pro-ish high-intermediate level. I am considering getting the ZBT's when I get some more $$$ because my local drum store has some at a good price. If B8's are as beginner as everyone says I'm kind of put off about getting some. I'm doing gigs soon and need something that can hold it down better than the awful crash/ride, Planet Z ride and hats that came with my kit.

i'd either save for good pro level cymbals, like AA or AAX or somethin' like that or get Paiste PST5's, those are considered entry level cymbals, but are immaculate, just ask thugs, he'll tell ya how it is

ZBT's are worse than B8's IMO.

If your just beginning, whats the diffrence what the cymbal sounds like. ZBts also come with a warranty... Its one year but some guitar centers have it extended to two years im not sure, all I know is I have a 2 year warranty on my ZBTs, if one breaks in those two years you either get the same cymbal free, or all the money back toward another Zildjian Cymbal. So unless you have 800 bucks sitting aorund while your beginning, get ZBTs... Its not like your going to start sounded good until the Zbts are pretty much broken anyway. Why pay extra to get pro sonix when those arent going to be your final cymbals anyway?

ZBT's and ZXTs= poop

Wuhang and Sabian XS20s = sweetness (around ur budget)

Tyler3295
04-19-2006, 12:03 PM
You could get the Sabian XS20's. I dont like ZBT's much but i think they are better than B8's. If ZBT's are poop, what are B8's then?

Theres nothin wrong with B8's

Infact i've used a B8pro thin crash forever, it's one of my fav cymbals!

Alright, i used to have B8s, and i think they are good for a beginner. ZBT's are definitely worse, and wuhan too...I havent tried out the Paiste but for 99$ i would get it. I ended up replacing all of my B8's now to get more advanced cymbals but in my opinion they were good for starters
