l believe Flea's Q-tron's batteries were dying as he was recording, so the effect sounds very...odd.
At least, that's the explanation l've heard.

When he plays live the tone is still the same though, must have to get nearly dead batteries for every concert?

He uses an old DOD Bass Envelope Filter for that track. They don't make em anymore though. Great sound.

This is wierd. I would skip over that song so much until one day I was listening to it while working and didnt bother. The jam session at the end of that song is the most beautiful melody I've ever heard them play. This doesn't answer your question, but seeing the thread title was just wierd to me, cause this story just happened a week ago.

It wouldnt effect the tone until it got down to the last line where there wasn't enough to power the unit anymore.

I dunno man, i heard he stopped using that pedal before bssm, on off the map he uses the q tron, it sounds like it, and tracey his tech in an article says that he uses the q tron for the synth sounds in sir pyscho sexy... so im pretty convinced it aint the DOD... Where abouts did it say he used it? i want that tone!

Sounds a bit like he's playing through a synth pedal and bass balls. At least I used to be able to get a very similar sound to the one he has, some would even say it's the same sound.

Sounds like you're playing through a gay pedal and man balls.

I'm pretty damn sure it's a Bassballs with the distortion switch on.
I can get the Sir Psycho Sexy tone dead on using mine.

He didn't use a Q tron then.
