Pool Of Radiance Problem

Ive started playing the DOS version of Pool Of Radiance and I have been having some problems with it. When I try to cast a magic missile the animation happens but when the magic missile gets to the target it dissapears like normal but then nothing happens, no damage or anything and it just goes to the next characters turn. I downloaded this version and it also has problems like being able to select nothing in the menus. When you go beyond the choices it fills in a line with funny letters and things, although this is no real drama as they dont do anything it shows the problems this game is having. So is there a way past this magic missile problem? Also if I buy the Forgotten Realms Archives pack and get the game from there will I still be able to use my save?

Well I have found its not the version of game Im playing(the selecting nothing may not happen on a bought version though). As I downloaded another version(I know its different because it was cracked by someone different) but the problem persists. The other one came with a few of its own saves, and magic missile works on them for both versions. I got my magic missile through a scroll found in the slums(I cant remember where but I have a feeling its in the NW treasure room where you have to have search turned on to find it plus 200 platinum pieces) and I scribed it from that, apart from that I cant think of anything else to cause my problem. My magic-users intelligence is 18, although I havnt tried it with my other magic-user because I can only find one scroll of magic missile.

bump, Im surprised no-one here can help its quite a popular game and people in the media centre are usually very helpful.
