I have been letting the bassist of my band borrow my bass for almost a year now. He treats it poorly and almost always turns the little amp up all the way, sometimes with everything else turned up to. I told him to buy new strings and not to put them on, and to ask a pro, just to make sure it wouldn't warp the neck. He just went ahead and put them on and the bass looks fine. So today I decided I wanted to take my bass back home to write some bass lines for our song because he has been playing bass for as long as he has borrowed my bass and he doesn't know much theory. So what does he do? He takes his strings off and strap off and hands me the bass. wtf? Now we have 8 dead strings.
as always discuss and comment.

The guy sounds like a moron. Why'd you even lend him your bass in the first place? Don't let idiots use your stuff.

I wanted a band. He had been playing guitar so I let him borrow the bass so he could practice.

Just tell him he should look into getting a 5 string. That way he'll buy one for himself without you having to be rude to him and everyone is happy.

The main reason I took it home was to play it and write stuff for him.

I even offered to sell him the bass (ibanez low end model) and crate (small amp) for $150.

Yeah get another bassist, he sounds like a common root noter to me. Guitarists can't play bass well straight off, end of story.

Yeah, most bassists start off like that when they start playing. They just turn the amp all the way up and pull on the strings un-nessissarily hard.

*blopp blopp bloooop blopblop*

Eventually, he should get a bit more serious, but he needs a good bassist to tell him he's really sh!t first.

Then he'll go:

*bombatingada bombatingada bobadadoobabada*

Yeah, he wanted to play exactly what I was playing.

Right now I am soaking them in denatured alchohol for a day. Hopefully that will bring 'em to life.

This is why I don't let anyone else apart from the other guitarist in my band play my guitar

He sounds like a jerk. Find another bassist with HIS OWN gear and some talent.
