Yamaha DFP9410 (Flying Dragon Direct Drive System)

5/5

Idea

Built as a competitor to the new direct drive system pioneered by axis without the hefty price tag.

Durability

With a distinct lack of any part that ISNT solid metal, the pedal scores maximum points in this area. It has the look of a high quality product with strong parts to boot.

Price

This item costs around £240GBP which is roughly half the axis pedals price. Considering the overall quality of the product and the general feel of it, I would consider this a very fair price. It also costs less than the leading chain drive systems.

Features

The pedal comes with many drum screws to ensure parts do not come loose during use, for example there is a screw to hold the spring tension adjustment nut, which I consider an excellent idea. The pedal has many adjustments to suit every drummers requirements and is easy to adjust with no fuss involved. The pedal even includes its own multi-tool for the job.

Overall

This is where the pedal excels against all others I’ve tried. At first I was a little apprehensive about a direct drive literally half the price of the competitors. Despite its low price, it looks like a very high quality product at first glance. From the very moment my feet touched the footboards I knew this was pedal was well underestimated as a professional pedal. The beaters move effortlessly with little resistance and they react instantly. The pedal is the smoothest I have ever used and easily outstrips both the Iron Cobras and DW9000’s. If I had a chance to change pedal, I doubt I would ever take it. The Dragons are the most incredible pedals I’ve ever played and will stay on my set until a better model is invented.
