Im starting to get annoyed at this stuff ive been playing around 1year and a few months and ive decided to start printing of tabs and trying to learn a load of song sand ive realised alot of the songs i want to learn are offbeat bass and snare.
Good charlotte:The anthem
This is pretty basic in playing exept for a few of the fills maybe tricky but its generlaly simple.EXEPT FOR THE OFFBEAT STUFF im sort of having trouble playin it and playin it at the right speed for the song.
Generally what i want is::
Help on is being able to play offbeat,
Ways to get better
and techniques on how to learn
All help appreciated thanks :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Whoa, that is some question!
Basically without going into too much detail and without writing a book on the development of drumming skills i can honestly say that the best policy is, and i quote:
"I dont practice for hours, i practice for results" -Jojo Mayer
The best way to learn at a fast rate is to concentrate hard and really research your stuff...
Also, when you practice this good charlotte song, dont practice at a faster tempo and then start again because you didnt get it...
Go extremely slow and pace yourself. Put a click on next to you to help keep time and only when you can do something slow you can then attempt to play something faster/up to speed...
If you find yourself screwing up and not being able to get a grasp on something your practicing, SLOW DOWN!
Anyone correct me if im talking rubbish :)
By the way off-beat is a bit vague, maybe if you copy the tab and put it in "courier new" font we could help...
but for now try playing it slowly :)

take it easy and feel it, don't hear it.
Very important. It's necessary to feel it.
Same for odd time sigs. You must feel it.

If you have a drum teacher take it to him (or her) and practice it the lesson. Or at least get them to teach you basic off beat rhythm.

The only offbeat part is in the fourth measure , no downbeat on 3
its simple ........practice to place your bass drum wherever you want it to go. put it not always on 1 & 3 , always putting it on 1 & 3 gets you into bad rock drummer habits
how to learn? practice not playing on 1 & 3 in different ways - move the bass drum to different places in eights then sixteenths AND COUNT!
Then Learn how to do a basic shuffle , Then subdivide the shuffle rhythm into different voices of the drumkit , I find its a great begineer exercise to place and switch things all over the shuffle while holding a steady rhythm on all parts of the kit
Its quite clear his problem in on 3 in the last measure when there is no bass drum ; its obvious he is loosing the beat because of it
COUNT!
Edit:
Definetly count outloud
Ahh. Its actually not how he wrote it, Ill grab a line of tab off mxtabs

i like the phrase 'practice makes permanent'
i've seen some kids who practice a lot end up playing really horribly because they've never had a teacher and it takes them forever to fix their screwy technique

It is completely beyond me as to why anyone would ever want to play any Good Charlotte song.

They are good to learn drums on because they are easy. I learned "The Anthem" and "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" myself a few months after I began drums.
