My band is going on tour and I would rather not haul the rack around.
Im looking for 2 cymbal stands, preferably straight stands.. and a tom/cymbal combo stand.
Im only touring with a 4 piece kit so thats why the lack of stands is noticable haha.
Who would like to suggest some to me.
Im thinking DW.

Yamaha stands are amazing. I have one under my heavy ride, it's the best stand I've used, bar none.

Does Yamaha or Pearl make combo stands?
even Tama?

DW 5700 or 5700L (lightweight). I have raved about these many times on these forums, and they deserve it. Both models are boom/straight to fit any situation you want. Truly superb stands.

DW or Yamaha. Both of those companies have stands that are tom mounts, and that can also be used as regular cymbal stands.

Very, very, ture. However, they lack the memory locks that are crucial to quick, repeatable, and reliable setups time after time. So for that reason I'm going to recommend to you...

Two DW 9700's
One DW 9900
One DW 799 DogBone & Arm

This combination will allow you do have 2 straight/boom stands, and a tom holder that will support 1 tom, and one cymbal. This is literally the best hardware in the world.

If you buy all 4 at once expect to pay at least $365+ for the lot though. Paying 100% retail on the setup is $420 I beleive.

I have a Dixon straight/boom stand and it's great! Also, they make so many hardware parts you would easily be able to add to the stands (dog bones, clamps, etc.)

Stagg make some good stands for a small price. I have a Cymbal Arm by Stagg and its very durable, I even put a ride on it because I didnt like the Splash on it.

Yamaha.

Or Dw.

You probably would rather prefer Lightweight/single braced models due to the fact your touring. Unless you have a lot to hold on your stands ( Tom + ride plus other **** )

In a touring situation, you NEED stands that will hold up to the riggors of travel, and constant setup and tear down. These should be made to withstand a good amount of abuse.

When you're touring, its not acceptable to have a stand that will, "Just hold a few cymbals for low dollars." Now your looking at reliabilty, repeatable setups, and ease of tearing down on top of being able to carry a load.

For those reasons I cannot recommend a lot of the lower priced stands out there. They just won't cut it IMHO. Lets face it, if you're hardware fails becasue you wanted to save 20 bucks... well hey, its your show.

Pearl Gyro-lock are very good stands. I have one and it's a boom stand/tom stand. It's quite neat. Then for your ride I would get a heavy stand, yamaha perhaps.

You said it best in your threadstarting post... "I'm thinknig DW"

Grab some 5700's and a 9900. Or, if you have the money, go and get the 9700's with a 9900. You will NOT be dissapointed! I have used and own everything I've mentioned and trust me, it does everything good piece of hardware should.

Does it pleasure you in between songs?

In all seriousness though, I'm sure there's a good reason a number of touring artists endorsed by other drum companies still use DW hardware.

You're very welcome, if you were in my area I'd be happy to let you try out a 5700 or 9700, even a 9900 for a couple of days. The stand has featrues most other do not- it makes many setups and tear downs quick, and repeatable.

How right you are.

Carter Beauford is a Yamaha player, but uses DW pedals.
Billy Thommes plays on Singerland drums, but uses DW hardware and pedals.
Brian Mantia uses the DW hardware

The list goes on...

Mapex makes good stands, they're under rated.
Otherwise tama roadpro.

PDP's 8.155 Series of Hardware is quite nice. I've been gigging with it for about 4 months. It's medium weight and has memory locks. The boom stands are convertible so you can make them straight or boom. I have a 8.155 straight stand with my ride and floor tom clamped and a 8.155 boom stand with a crash and rack tom when I have my 4 piece set up. They work very well.

They also have the 9.155 series for heavy weight. But I wouldn't try the 7.155 series. Very lightweight and not durable.
