we are a 2 piece band, and Rush has been our mian cover focus since we picked up our current instruments a few years ago. We dont have a singer, but that doesnt stop us. Check out this video cover of spirit of radio where my drummer plays peart like cake and sings geddy like **** simultameously as i do what ever the heck it is that alex does.

Well, mabey not "master" but easy isnt a term applied here.

Not bad not bad. Recording quality sucked. But the playing was decent. He has potential.

You guys really need a singer and bassist though.... Really...

How bout the camera guy?

Also ending was pretty cool.

The_Evil_Erk

Camera guy several years ago actually was the original singer/bassist, and then we discovered that he sucked all around at music and sadly had no potential whatsoever.
yeah, I have a bunch of nice recording equip. but i have yet to use it since we are still finishing up the studio shown. for some reason my school wanted video for a tryout peice, so thats what we did.

I like how you say it's very difficult to do Rush with a two piece when Rush is only a 3 piece.

no, rush is difficult to play becuase of the mass amounts of skill required in nearly every aspect of the band. Neil = best drummer, Geddy = impossible to imitate, Alex = Alex, spirit of radio = hardest melody ever (that ive incountered and not a solo) and we combine all of them.

he knows id say about 80% of rush welll on the drums, and plays about 80-90% of what niel does right on.

They do multiple tracks in the studio to. Which is why I am surprised Rush live sounds that damn perfect.

Also nice job with the hammerons.

Wow and your drummer is singing! That is good cover work on Rush, best I've heard. Well second time. But better than the 30 year olds I saw.

Get a singer.

Good job though I couldn't stand that echoes with the sound of salesmen though, the "singer" was so off key. Hes a pretty good drummer, needs to develop chops though had the same probably I had 2 weeks ago(yes 2 weeks I have some pretty good chops now). I say he has stick control so if he devlops it he'll be able to get around the toms cleaner.

Good job overall though. GET BASSIST AND SINGER!!!

Nerdy...yes...lol, but our originals arent nerdy...well, not that nerdy...i prefer the term, puts a lot of thought into what they do. and its very difficult to find someone our age who can even come close to geddy. we have a few more people joining our band but we wont be doing rush covers.

you tube will be down for a few hours, so it wont be viewable until the server is back up

def not the master of rush...but not to shabby... the singing on the other hand...he does realize when a persons sings its not just talking loudly but actually hitting notes?

The_Evil_Erk
04-10-2006, 03:17 PM
yeah, he tried the singing thing, and me and the camera guy were like no...that is much to painful cuz he tried to imitate geddy. Its really just a last resort. He did not want to sing this at all actually.

lol, "master of Rush" it was meant to an exageration, and at the bottom of the first post there is the whole "mabey not master but easy is not a term applied here." sorry if it sounds cocky. BTW, no whre in this thread did I put that he was great, good, better, exectional, brilliant, perfect or any other synonym, you assumed that.

The amp was as loud as it gets, im gonna buy a new one here shortly.

I cant help but notice that Loser just noticed that people have horrible spelling over the internet. lol. Mabey one day we'll have grammer teacher here on MF, he'll show us the light.

He plays everything with a garbage feel, singing or not (I watched the other video too). He needs more practice with a metronome. His fills were off, alot. His posture during fills sucks, Looks like he needs more room back there.

Practice more dynamics. Your original was like one long verse just because the Dynamic levels were so bland.

It is if the members know what to play. Me and my guitar player study Rush's music all the time. Thats why every show we play, we play a 20 minute Rush medly. I wish I had sound clips but we do pretty right on.

yeah the original is worth **** at the moment because it was not meant to sound like that. the beginning drumming however, is a 7/4 alternating paradidle *thing* that is mind baffleing. remember that i have no idea what im talking about in this context.

The intro sounded really empty without bass. The singing wasn't too great but not a lot of people can sing like Geddy. Overall it was good and better than anything my band can pull off even though the quality was crap.

While we're on the subject of geddy/rush, anyone who has the "Exit Stage Left" album listen to Red Barchetta, at around 2:19 is it just me or does geddy do a little death grunt when he sings the "I" of "'I fired up the willing engine''?

I dunno.. im pretty damned impressed. First off, kids this age with all likelyhood would be playing music that I dont like very much instead of drawing inspiration from a truly great band.

The drumming certainly isnt the best, but for someone his age? Wow.. good rhythm. The timing of his fills should improve with practice. I guess my only recommendation is to practice more jams, and to remove singing all together for a while until you find someone who can fill out your sound.. you guys should be way more concerned with timing at this point, now that it seems as if you've mastered the basics.

If you really want to blow me away, I'd love to see an original 20-30 minute jam session of you guys just tooling around and having some fun.. incorporating other like minded bands into your repertoire.. being able to do that while still under the 'ripe old age' of 18, yea.. that would impress the hell out of me.

Good luck guys.

well said. Most guys on this board have bad ego problems, altough they will never admit that and will sum up tons of reasons to dismiss my statement.

Point is; the guys definitely have something good going. Keep it up. If they have a ****ty attitude they will run into trouble anyways so why bother hammering on that.

You do have to admit he looks better now than he did in the 70's. The straight hair doesn't fit him.

And the soup!

I think that cover was on the limit of bareable. I mean there's a difference between playing Rush and knowing what it's about. Sure your drummer can play the songs but his technique would make Neil cry. You on the other hand have this guitar stuff down.
