Hey guys. This is probably gonna be a short lived topic. But I was wondering what you guys thought about uneven tom depths. What I mean is, I refinished a bunch of drums because I was bored and they came out pretty good. The only problem is, that the 10" tom (groove percussion jazz set) is only 7" deep while the 12"(Export) is 10" deep.

My question is, would the 10x7 look ****ing retarded next to the 12x10? And what other drummers use toms that have depths like that? The space in between the toms looks more than 3 inches apart but the drums sound so well together and because I sold my DW, this is the only set I have now so pretty much I want to expand the kit as much as I can with my own ideas.

Also, would it be a good idea to make my own cymbal stands? And if it is, how would I go about doing it?

Looks =/= reasons not to choose.

Why are you asking us? It's YOUR kit and, as of now, you are probably the only one who can see it. Ask yourself how it looks. This is one of those things where it is really about preference nothing can prove one side or the other. But sound should be above all else and since you say they sound so good together, just forget about the looks.

Yeah but having them both rack toms would be pretty inconvenient.

Yeah good point. Im kinda iffy right now about the whole setup. Im still deciding between the 1 up and 3 down. Or the 1 up, 2 down and 4 back. I guess trial and error has to come in play now.

One Up, Three down is pretty crazy cool.

Do as you wish.

I don't see why there would be a problem. I doubt some kid will go .

No, it wouldn't be a good idea to make your own. Just fork over the extra cash and get a good product that will last.
