I don't know if this is the case with anyone else but I feel I'm faster with my feet when I dont wear shoes. It's probably just in my head, but does anyone else have this?

I do it because i usually use 5 pedals and i cant feel where they are as well with shoes.

I know alot of drummers who play without shoes, but I don't particularly like it. I don't feel like I have any traction on the pedals.

It really doesn't matter if you wear shoes or not, I like to wear shoes cause I don't always know what im stepping on, if you pedals feel wierd with shoes on, adjust for the shoes, its not too terribly difficult
EDIT: no ive never tried ASICS, what are they like?

I'm yet to try on a pair of those shoes... I think I'd only consider buying 'em if they were on sale... They're quite expensive for the lack of materials :p
I like playing my drums with my DVS Huf 4 skate shoes. They're nice and comfortable.

I'll play both with and without shoes... It all depends.

There extremely supportive as they are high tops, but extremely thin with a very nice gripping rubber sole.

GF are way more comfy and tougher. My Converse were wrecked within a few days of me getting them but my GF are still going strong.

VANS all the way for me. However, it's all a matter of personal preference and I can see why some people go barefoot. I don't like the cold feeling and the lack of grip. I'm also paranoid about losing a toenail or toe in my chain.
i just wear regular shoes. I used to play with just socks but i play with shoes now. whatever i happen to be wearing. Its hard to play in slip on slipper thingys.

I dont' like playing barefoot or with socks because I don't feel like I have enough traction, but I haven't found a shoe that suits me yet, for drumming. I was thinking of giving chuck taylors a tray, but I dunno...

i use socks or adidas tunisias, or something like that, theyre my normal shoes but theyre pretty thin.
as a wrestler and a drummer i just have to say something about you guys wearing wrestling shoes for drumming........WOW!*starts shaking head, crying, and laughing all at the same time*
its really stupid, not only that but wierd, and it disrespects their purpose, if ur gonna use them atleast wrestle lol

Shoes: No
Socks: Yes
I can't do heel-toe with shoes either.
I usually use a pair of alpinist shoes. They are very thin soled and provide enough traction.

I hate playing with shoes, its just my prefernce. What I do is pad my pedals, with anytype of padding just fit them on. I like it.

What do you for shows? Once my band played a bar and the guitarist demanded we bow so I went with one shoe on and one off (right shoe on left off) and I must have looked pretty wierd. So ya do you keep em' on for shows or what?

i dont get it when people say omg no socks or shoes make my feet freeze! come on, its not THAT cold. I dont use shoes, alot more feel on the pedal and shoes are big and clumpy, and slips.
But if i had to wear shoes, i think skate shoes are the best way

just use some kind of sport shoe, doesn't matter wich kind. As long as they fit and do not cover up your ankle (so you can move freely), it's all good.
I guess the best kind would be some kind of running shoe.
Skate and basket shoes are a big no-no imo. The shoes are too high and block up your ankles, wich limits the movement freedom of your feet.

I wear socks and shoes when I play. The shoes I wear are Vans.
With shoes my feet feel like they produce more powerful hits than without. It could be just in my head though.

When I practice I dont use footwear, I can feel where I am on the pedals better. When I'm at school/studio or playing a gig i'll wear shoes, cus i dont want to look like a hobo.

I use running shoes. Light, full range of movement and gives my arches the support they need.
I think it looks tacky playing barefoot at a show. You may be able to go faster, but its not like you ever have to push your limits at a performance.

You probably do, it's because you have less weight on your feet/legs so you can move them faster without them being weighed down.

Well i like playing with shoes these days. For a fair while i used to just play in socks but now i've changed to wearing shoes and find that i can play better that way. Partly because i like to have my toes up against the toe plate/stop on my elims when i'm playing fast double. I wear rip curl shoes when i play because there low cut and fitting shoe with a thin sole on them. And thats my story.

I was a hobo for Halloween several times.
I prefer to play either barefoot or with my running shoes on.

Playing in socks in the only way to go for me.
If I'm playing in shoes, I feel that I don't have as much control with my feet, they feel heavier, less agile.
On the other hand, if I play barefoot, my feet get sweaty and slide all over the pedals. So that's not a great thing either.

Bare feet here, no shoes or socks. I feel like I have better control and can feel what the pedal is doing better without anything on

I like to wear shoes, but only shoes with a thin sole. When I play with shoes playing the bass drum feels a lot nicer for some reason and if they are nice and worn out shoes I can get some nice slide out of the pedal for the Slide Technique.

i tried a bunch of combinations, i wore Adidas shoes and did alright, than i switched to no shoes, no socks, but i had no grip on the pedal. Than i tried socks and diddn't like it so now i wear Converse all-stars and am just fine!

So true. Although, actually, I like my Converse, and they have lasted freaking ages.
Personally, I like shoes on, and play in whatever I'm wearing. If I can play it, I can play it, shoes or not.
I have noticed a lot of drummers wear Converse. Whether that's coincidence, or whether Converse are better for drumming, or drummers are just cooler, I'm not sure.

Bare foot. I find there isn't enough free movement around with ankles with shoes on. I can play with socks, just not as fast as my feet slip everywhere on the pedals. Bare foot is the way to go. Lots of grip(for me anyway), nothing restricting movement, and lots of speed.

Just annoy the hell out of your band if your feet smell, like mine do.
Drummers are cool but:
