im getting new resonant heads soon, and i wasnt sure if batter heads were different than resonant heads, they are right, i thought they were but then i was curious what the difference was.

so are resoanant heads different than batter heads, and if so how?

On snare, yes, reso heads are much much thinner. On toms, there isnt much difference, I use clear G1's on my tom reso's, but Evan's for instance, does offer reso heads for toms.. On bass theres manyt options, there is specific bass reso's but you can use a normal batter if you please. Pending it comes int he size yoru looking for.

so on tom resos their about the same?

sorry i forgot to specify which drums, i just meant the toms,i already have my plans for the bass, and snare heads.

is the emad reso a good bass head? it seems kind of expensive, is there anything cheaper thats just as good, i dont need a port

Those are fine bass drum heads. A little too fast for my liking (IE The port) Might want to go with something more well rounded, like a G1.

EQ1 for bass. The EMAD is overkill and should only really be used in a studio.

For toms: G1 or Amb.

Pretty much the same, yea, .. generally on Tom's you stick a clearn G1, or Remo Ambassador, ... nothing else is going to give you such a wide range of sound.

Actually they do. The difference between batter heads and resonant heads on drums is the resonant head, like said before, is usually thinner. There isn't really a rule though that says you can't use a batter head for your resonant head, like abandonthetruth said.

just stay away from coated or pinstripes as resonant....I herd ebony heads are nice resonant heads though

right now im using pearl protones and you wouldnt believe how little tuning range i get out of them, im probably gonna get g1's to match my g2's, ebonys would be overkill, as i have a black set.

whats the cheapest resonant head i can get that would sound good?, im not really too picky about sound, i dont really get much resonance anyway as i have pearl forums, and emad batter

The EMAD batter is great used live. I have the coated batter version paired with a coated G1 reso (unported). I tune it to a nice open jazz sound on my 18" kick ,, I throw on the thin muffle ring I get an awesome rock tone , I throw on the thick muffle ring I get a deep punchy funky sounding bass drum.

Yes , the EMAD Reso is totally pure overkill. IMO anything more than a port on a reso is overkill (IMO)
