Note: This piece is a modern appropriation of the Parable of the Lost Son (also known as the Prodigal Son). There are sections taken directly from scripture and also references to biblical and mythological characters. I know it is long, so I'm not asking for a line by line critique, more a general overview of what works and what doesn't.

Parable of the Lost Son

I Dollars and Sense
The silent storage venue,
The clock is ticking with my pulse.
Dollar bags are on the menu,
Ignoring Michael's voice.
Like a seismic storm of Tethy's nails,
And a flash of eyelashes so frail,
Adrenaline puts the plan in motion,
So begins the biggest mistake of my life.

It's our money by right, tonight,
And we'll take it back to the sound of silence,
We'll dance in dollars and sleep in riches,
Such is the price of inheritance.

So theatrical in our dealings,
The bags are marked with dollar signs,
Surprised we're wearing winter jackets
And not jump suits engraved with lines.
Like a cyclopean wave of panic,
The alarm shatters the quiet.
Adrenaline puts the chase in action,
And ignites the terror in the night.

It's our money by right, tonight,
And we'll take it back to the sound of silence,
We'll dance in dollars and sleep in riches,
Such is the price of inheritance.

II Autumn Tear Melody
A smile of shattered glass,
And a story just so fabricated,
Eloquent class,
Where the alibi originated
Fictional ferocity
And reserved animosity,
You've got it all, and you haven't got much.

Oh, you're so,
Inconspicuous
And you know,
They're onto us.
These trails of polished lies,
And tenebrous grey skies.
They make you hard to catch.
While I take care over the cash.

What's the time on your epitaph,
Or the inscription in your cell?
Minutes travel by so fast,
But they wont when you're in hell.
Fiery pits of honesty,
Which consumed your plea for amnesty.
It's all that you have left, and you don't have much.

Oh, you're so,
Inconspicuous
And you know,
They're onto us.
These trails of polished lies,
Reflections of your sullen eyes.
They make you hard to catch.
While I take care over the cash.

You ought to know now,
That I never could catch you.
And while I stand here at this funeral,
Your memory remains,
You've driven me away.

III Tinsel-town and Champagne
Relax, relax- I'll pay in cash,
Big name faces,
Living on the boulevard.
Deathly silence then the crash,
Private places,
Troubles brewing on the cards...

So this is what life's like on the movie set,
Where everybody knows your name.
It's such a pity,
Reflection of the swineherd.
So this is what life's like on the movie set,
And everybody knows your game.

Greenbacks living in the bank,
Magnetic strip,
Sends it where it needs to go.
Maxing out credit accounts,
Money ship,
Is anchoring in other bays.

So this is what life's like on the movie set,
Where everybody knows your name.
It's such a pity,
Reflection of the swineherd.
So this is what life's like on the movie set,
And everybody knows your game.

IV There's a "One" in "Alone" for a Reason
The phone rings,
And I don't answer.
I know now,
That I'm a cancer.
My victims,
So undeserving,
This cell phone,
Becomes self serving.

One time, alone- a heart of stone,
Would shatter under this pressure.
There's nothing on cloud nine for me,
There's nothing on cloud nine for me.

How do you live with yourself,
On a Monday night,
Playing blackjack by yourself,
By fluorescent lights.
Trying to make cash,
Off your alter-ego,
The one that spent it all.

I have recklessly forgotten your glory,
And among sinners I've scattered dollars.
And now i cry to you as the prodigal:
I have sinned before you,
Receive me,
Penitently
And make me as a hired servants.

One time, alone- a heart of stone,
Would shatter under this pressure.
There's nothing on cloud nine for me,
There's nothing on cloud nine for me.

V Prodigal Prodigy
This is a metaphorical
Situation, from the chronicles-
Of T.V magazine,
With pages that are never clean.
And every other thing that you call familiar.
Every other place that you,
Call home.

Scream out from the rooftops,
Or the sunroof of your limousine.
Haven't they told you,
Returning from the movie scene.
The prodigal son returns.
You've never been so jealous as you are now.

Here is an astronomical,
Idea that's so impossible.
That you'll refuse.
At best, or try induce me,
With illegal amphetamines,
Designed by my production team,
Designed and designated,
To kill.

VI Feasting in Wells
Back again and it's not the same,
Family life is, oh, so tame.
We meet the parents,
They meet the second brother.
You look so jealous,
Framed by that darkened mirror.

There's a feast in the well,
Is all well?
I'm back in open arms again.
There's a circle in hell,
For the jealous,
Envy stands for 'No Vendetta"
What a contradiction.

Blessed is the man who does not,
Walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Who doesn't stand in the way of sinners,
Or sit in the seat of mockers.

So jealous,
So jealous,
Get off your high chair, and tell us-
What's weighing down your bronze heart?
That kept you silent from the start.
Is this the biggest mistake of your life?

well, first thing I have to say is : wow! It was long but it'd worth the reading. You have an amazing language and a beautiful imagery. Your rhymes are wonderful too, they never seemed forced to me. And what a great appropriation of this bible's part! I can't think of anything wrong. This is an amazing piece, really. It is long, but the way you divise it in different part really make it easier to read. Congratulations for this extraordinary text!

Yeah, I felt like this is a really singable chorus- i've yet to write the music but once I do this will be the first place that I post it.
