Hiya,

Bought a new Spector Euro 5 (blue stain finish), which is beautiful, and a great bass to play. I'll post pics when I take some (my family have borrowed my digital camera at the moment).

Obviously due to the value of the bass, I'd like to insure it. Can anyone recommend any companies (I'm in the UK btw)?

Thanks in advance.

Very good choice on the bass, it is a beauty of an instrument.

Ive got my warwick insured with direct line (i think thats what ive got it insured under anyway) but i would check them out, its a damn good idea.

Hey,

Thanks, I've checked direct line out, but cant find a section for musical instrument insurance!

Anyone tried 'musicguard' insurance?

Also, does anyone know what strings Spectors come with? Is it their own brand? Whatever they are, they're ok, but I'll put some Elixir's on when the stock ones have worn. Having said that, I would't mind trying some DR's, I'll have to see.

i was talking to my band directer about insuring my basses, and she said if you add them to your homeowners policy, that's your best bet. That way, if your house were to get robbed or burned down or something, you'll get a brand new bass no questions asked. I could be wrong though, i'll have to look into it.

Any single item over £1000 in value has to be seperately declared on your home insurance. You can get full contents insurance on your house for quite cheap (I pay £15 a month).

If you live at home with parents - it's already insured (ask them anyway). However, i'd check the terms and conditions regarding using it away from your house, in terms of public performance etc.

If the above does not apply and you need seperate insurance for it, try http://www.musicguard.co.uk/.

Hiya,

Thanks, went with musicguard in the end, £5.64 (I think) a month, for £1050 value (£1000 rrp for the bass and £50 for the case). Include's cover in a vehicle, £1 million personal liability and hire instrument cover. Hopefully I'll never need it, but always handy to have.

Cheers.

Explain the personal liability please...

Personal liability insurance is for if you ever cause injury/death or damage to property. Why you'd need it for a bass guitar is beyond me however.

Yeah, I meant to specify its significance for a bass guitar. Of course, something could happen. :)

Like the bass shorts out an amp, which takes out the PA and causes a huge fire which kills everyone in the audience ?

£5m should cover that..
