congrats!

I don't think I've spent more than 15$ on a cable...

most expensive one was a speaker cable.

I've always been under the impression that cables don't affect your sound much...

but yeah people sometimes lie to me for fun.

When you pay hundreds of pounds for a good bass and amp, you don't wanna put a piece of crap between them, at least thats what I always say.

:chug:

after spending as much money on my rig as i have, it's time to lace everything up with some good cables. I've only bought like one cable ever. the rest have been like hand-me-downs. so i'm way excited.

and from what i've heard from people, you DO get a better sound with better cables. a clearer sound, more tone perhaps... we'll see.

Just recently bought a Planet Waves circuit breaker 20ft cable. Its brilliant! :D And its great that i've confused about 4 guitarists so far.. "errrm, your cable doesn't work. Its rubbish!" "press the button!" *guitarist fiddles with random buttons on amp* "nope, still doesnt work" "THE BUTTON ON THE JACK!!!" "errr... oh... oops!"

I feel like Monster cables rape my high end, I only use mine when I need the extra length.

Monsters NEVER break, and if they do, they give you a new one for free and I even think that they pay for shipping. They will even replace them if you break them pulling a car with 'em.

I really like planet wave cables, I use to buy cheap cables but after they broke within a month I thought I better buy something that quality.

I just use cheap cables...maybe I should invest in some better ones?

I've heard a lot of great stuff about "George L's" cables...anyone use them?

Thonk

George L's are just kits. Well, the ones i've seen.

You put them together yourself. I've never used them but they're a hit over at TB.

I have 4 different lenght cords...i think they are called bosshogs. i could be wrong. and they always break. but i just pick up a new one for free at the local guitar store. yay lifetime warranty! (ive broken 3 cords in about 3 years)

Is that planet wave cable that switches off when it isnt in the jack any worse sound quality than the normal planet wave type leads

im not sure but resistance due to the length of wire could be a factor. but im not very good at physics

There's a slight difference in tone from what cables you use, but its about as much difference as changing your pickup bobbins, lol. I'd be willing to wager that no one on these forums, maybe one or two people absolute tops, could hear the difference between two cables unless one had something seriously wrong with it.
The fact of the matter is that with wear, even if you take really good care of them, and wrap them up properly, cables are going to **** out on you eventually. They all boil down to wound copper wire inside plastic.
You do get signal deterioration from cables though, so yeah, the longer, the suckier. Still better than a wireless unit. Gross compression on the buggers.
The only reason to spend money on cables is for the warranty, otherwise you might as well just use your milk money.

Planet Waves are too expensive, and the volume lowers incredibly with them compared to other cables.

I like Monster myself.

From what I've heard, if your bass is passive, with long cables you loose high-end. For some reason, active basses don't loose any. Atleast I heard that once.

I don't like long cables. Longest I could get is 15 feet, or maybe that long and green Radioschack cable, as the rest break too easily in my experience. I'll just have two ten-foot ones, one from my bass to an effect, or whateve, and then to the amp. Good enough.

mrcarter
04-09-2006, 05:43 PM
Nope, still deteriorates, regardless of electronics.
One might get the idea otherwise because and active signal has more output and would still be stronger at the other end with the same amount of deterioration.
Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier, while power adapters save on the batteries, don't even think about recording (or gigging for that matter) with them. They suck your tone (noticably) and add to background noise.

eburton04
04-10-2006, 12:39 AM
i think power adapters are perfect for gigging. just me though. just me.

Yeah, its not quite so important for gigging, especially if you gig a lot, instead of just every once in awhile (special occasions after all, lol).
But as soon as you bring an adapter in to a recording studio, any decent recording engineer will be pissed and likely start yelling. I know I would, lol.

eburton04

Yeah well I used batteries for our recordings... mainly because i didnt have any adapters at the time.. hah

planet waves or monster are te sexx

but seriously if your using a cheap cable they are more prone to break or short out... it like ripping some of the pins out of a scart cable, if you get me.
also the better the electronics the better quality. They dont make them expensive for nothing

Can you buy any of these cables in the UK?
All I can find on the gak website is some random venom cables.
