Hey guys, frequent reader, rare poster. I have something to post today though!:

I am now hosting a show on my college radio station, SCADRADIO.ORG, that focuses on music where bass plays a pivotal role. From the early jazz days of Charles Mingus on the upright to modern pop icons such as Les and Flea, "The Low End" brings the versatility of the bass guitar in the spotlight, every sunday, from 8 to 10pm. http://www.scadradio.org

You can tune in and even request a song by instant messaging "scadradio" on aim. I am planning on further building my library, since there are so many great bassists and basslins to be played. Here is an example tracklist of some of what I will be playing:

Stu Hamm - Country Music
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Next
Queens of the Stoneage - Better Living Through Chemistry
Primus - Golden Boy
Technicolour Stallion - Bumpy Road
Fishbone - Date Rape
Brothers Johnson - Stomp
Graham Central Station - I Can't Stand the Rain
Jaco Pastorius - Chromatic Fantasy

and MANY MANY MORE. I would love requests and suggestions for more bands, even if I may allready have them. Thanks for your time!

I suggest something by muse.

Also, can users send in songs to be played on there? Like their own compositions?

Nice idea by the way.

Buy Kali's Son by Jonas Hellborg and give Kali Ghat a spin. Awesome track.

And Dune Tune by level 42!

Nuclear Rabbit - The Pimp, The Bitch, and The Magic Beans
Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie
Stanely Clarke - Silly Putty

That'd be pretty kick arse

Yes, play More Stanley Clarke stuff than you do Jaco stuff and you'll be the man. Take the power back for Stan!

No, you won't find him in your local HMV, and yes, hellborg is his last name, he's Swedish.

Believe it or not our station advisor graciously GAVE me his Stanley Clarke on VINYL. I will be sure to play it and try to apprehend some of the other suggestions. Thanks! I look forward to some people tuning in and maybe even sending some messages on the aim.

Anything off of the Yes albums "The Yes Album", "Fragile", and "Close To The Edge" features the bass heavily. Though it might not really sound like it, Fragile's The Fish is all bass, drums, and vocals. Rush's YYZ, or La Villa Strangiato are great tunes.

Also check out:

Niacin:

Stomping Grounds
Mean Street
Paydirt
Blisterine

King Crimson:

Providence
Red
Larks' Tongues In Aspic Pt. 1
Elephant Talk

Added for todays show:

Genesis, Yes, Muse, and of course, Stanley Clarke on Vinyl.
could NOT find Hellborg, Niacin, or any King Crimson.

Curious: Our station is now cracking down on the use of copyrighted bed music, which is music that plays in the backround while a dj talks. I use backround music because it sounds great and without it it sounds SOOOO college radio. Anyways, now that i cant use what I normally use, I was wondering if members of this forum would want to submit some bass tracks(w/drums would be prefered) to be used as backround music. I'm sure that seems like a slap in the face to some people, but I also would like to play some tracks as full songs and not bed music. Anyone interested?

I got some Genesis, Muse, and more Stanley Clarke. I couldnt find any Hellborg, Niacin, or King Crimson yet though.

I am wondering if anyone would be willing to submit some bass tracks(drum accompaniment prefered) for bed music? Suddenly I can't play any copyrighted music as I talk(it fills the gaps and sounds more professional). Eventually I want to put together some form of competition for an MXer to get some airplay, but for now I really need bed music. Anyone interested?

Also: make sure its .org and not .com heres the link: http://www.scadradio.org

AIM: ScadRadio and request! Thanks for tuning in guys! Ill be on at 8:)

I have some stuff on my soundclick you could check to see if you wanna use. http://www.soundclick.com/katanamanatee

Possible tracks: The Skies Are Open, Circle, Becoming, Samba Ramba (just under a minute long) and if you wouldn't mind a metal tune with full drums Guardian Demons. If you wouldn't mind a totally solo bass one then check out New Evolution.

If you think any of it is of any use, feel free to use it.

Just use whatever you would like, if you think any of it is suitable.

Next time you might wanna try some Michael Manring, incredible stuff. Selene, Monkey Businessman, The Enormous Room, Adhan, Purple Haze, Red Right Returning etc. Check him out, his cds are tricky to find but worth it. Drastic Measures, Thonk and Soliloquy especially.

Yeah, that was brought to my attention. My bad! Im loving that I am learning and honing my knowledge as I do this show. just as people posted and requested stuff on here that i didnt have last week, so shall be the same next week. Manring shall be investigated and any others you guys would like to hear or think I should check out.

If you would like to submit some music as bed music, I would be greatful. you can aim me at my personal aim : tcerberust

Thanks again for tuning in. I did Savannahs local music show for 2 years and fought nothing but apathy, and in two weeks I've goten more messages and requests in one show than I probably did for any 5 shows before. I am very happy!

Chris K

Sheehan couldn't touch Sean Malone.

In a technical sense, but I've always found Malones playing rather uninteresting, and this is coming from someone who is not scared of chop heavy music! That said, he did get a nice tone from his fretless Kubicki.

and if you're looking for stuff to play, put some Attention Deficit stuff on like American Jingo, because everyone loves Manring and Skolnick.

Been trying to get some Manring but he IS hard to find for sure! I've got some new wild cards that may get a few smiles. A few artists I'll give away being added to tonight's show:

Herbie Hancock
Joss Stone
Soullive
and more ;)

Also deciding what recording to play for the Mid Show Bass Solo, where I'll play a recording of a live performance by a chosen bassist.

And here are some time zone modifications:

Eastern (Georgia, where I am) : 8-10PM
Pacific (California) : 5-7PM
England : 1-3AM same night.
Rest of Europe : 2-4AM same night.
Australia: confused me... it's either 9 hours ahead or behind.. Sorry!

The theme: "Shut Up and Play!"

Featuring two hours with NO VOCALS, just the instruments playing and the bass doing its thang.

Expect plenty of Victor Wooten, Stu Hamm, Marcus Miller, Michael Manring, Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius, John Myung and more!

Also, I am still looking for backround music. You can reply here and say "hit my soundclick", aim me:tcerberust, or email me:dnewma20@student.scad.edu and send files, whichever is convenient for you. I appreciate it guys! Thanks for tuning in!!
