How does that Yamaha head sound? I think I may have asked you already, but my memory is awful.
Killer Fridge
04-08-2006, 09:32 AM
Its wonderfully versatile, but it does have an incredibly annoying hiss that can be heard at higher volumes (dont notice it with the built it sound gate, but i rarely bother puttin that on).
I was getting rather irritated with it because i couldnt find a sound i liked on it, but I hadnt really been playing around with the different "sound types" it has, and they do make all the difference. Its got a very handy fully adjustable compressor on it too.
But, like edge says, it sounds very digital, but i like it - its a very clean sound, that you can tweak to your likes, but like everything, its all subjective.
Go try it out, its a good fun toy to say the least :thumb:

The kubicki cost me £600 used, which is a fantastic deal considering it's got the orginal pre-fender pre-amp.
The D-clip sits over the string like a capo, when you want to drop your tuning you lift it up (it is held in place by a spring) and bend the string and let go of the clip. It then sits in a notch in the neck and the string is allowed it's full voicing (now a D note), and it has 36" scale and 25 frets.
The string changing is a pain in the arse at first, but when you figure it out it's a breeze and can be done very quickly, but when I first did it I got my brother to lend a hand. I emailed Phillip Kubicki for some string changng tips which made it a lot easier too.

He he, thanks. At the time I was in the shop I wasn't even looking to buy a bass, but as soon as I saw and played with this Yammie I just had to buy it ... it's so nice. Will still probably get a Fender Jazz 4 or 5 string sometime soon too ... but for a different style of playing. The mellow tone of this (and the new D'Addario strings are sooo nice) is just great for soul/funk.

It's a good bass, but it never sees use now, since I don't need a low B and I don't like 35" scale. it has a nice tone, but I never use it since I got the kubicki.
hence, it's better off sold. It was my first proper bass, and I'd rather it went on to be played rather than sit in my cupboard.

I still use my LTD, as it's the bass I take to school, and usually for band practices (as I don't have a gig bag for the 'Ray, and moving it around + an amp isn't so easy).
The fretless, however, only gets use when the 'Ray is in another room. I might sell it Friday, for $125. <3
