my buddy and i are w/out a lead guitarist right now so we're just bass and drums---so we have to play along w/ the stereo---my question is---we have a nice set of p.a. speakers that we want to use in the band room but we want to power them w/ the stereo..we don't need them as p.a. speakers right now--but want to use them as p.a. speakers for playing out when we do..so we can't change anything permanantly...but is there some kind of inverter or converter or something along those lines that we can use so they can still serve the double purpose..any ideas will be appreciated--thanks

I... don't know for sure what you're asking. But the stereo should have an auxillary out for the speakers.
If I understand you correctly, you are wanting to utilise the PA speakers for both Band related music and as a Hi-Fi System setup?
Basically you would need to just run cabling from the Hi-Fi to the amp that is powering the PA speakers. Basically you would be unplugging the instrument site related cables and plugging in the cabling running the music form the Hi-Fi

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon of saying that what you're asking is unclear.
Are you asking whether or not your stereo can power PA speakers?
Are you asking if you'll be able to use them in your practice area and in a live environment?
Are you asking if its true that the reason the sky isn't green is because people wouldn't know when to stop mowing their lawns?

The last one. But where I live, all the grass is brown so we don't have that problem.
I think that he has stereo speakers in his band room and he wants to use them as both a PA for the band and as stereo speakers. So use the speakers with the stereo the first day. Then use them as a PA system without changing anything the next day. I also think another dilema is that he doesn't want to do any work with changing anything.
Having said that, I think my only help is going to be as a translator... I thought you needed like a PA master system to hook up to speakers. However I don't know that much about them.

ok i meant ---first-- that the pa speakers have 1/4 " instrument cable inputs and that the standard outs on a home stereo are not unless maybe you go out through the headphones...in which case i haven't tried yet and might try later never thought about it till i just tried to explain myself better---but also that i think that the two types of speakers {home stereo/pa}have different ohms--sp ck--ratings and different coiling setups..we already tried addapting stereo speaker wire to the 1/4 " cable plug but it sounded like shi* ... but i know that up at my local music store they had a set of pa speakers playing stereo.. but it was ran through a massive pa head that probably inverted or converted the input to the required output...i was just wanderin really if any body knew how we could get past that without spendin a couple grand on a pa head...we already have a decent pa head but it doesn't have any kind of home stereo speaker wire inputs...sorry about any confussion w/ my question and big thanks for any opinion....

OK. First. Use normal punctuation. That is: Say a sentence. Then use a period mark or question mark or whatever. "..." is a time elapse indicator. "---" is just as useless. So re-phrase your question in the actual form of a question. Thanks!

I think he wants to put his stereo into his power mixer.
In which case you would need to run a stereo 1/4 cable with a 1/4 inch a 3.5mm converter on one end going from the headphone out into one of the 1/4 inch jack inputs.
If you know so little about pa's though i wouldn't hate to let you set one up.

OK.... first..... i didn't need help w/ my punctuation........if you can't answer my question than go post somewhere else.........!!!!???//]][""";../,
and second---yes pitchfork somethin along those lines is what i'm wantin..but usually the headphone out on a home stereo is already a 1/4" jack...but there is somethin else i thought of last night--i think that the signal out of the headphone jack is a two channel stereo signal--two ring pin on the end of the headphone cable--and not the mono--single ring pin that all the band equipment uses---in which case we're still talkin about some sort of conversion....i'll absolutely be the first to say that i don't know a whole lot about about all the band equipment--i'm newbie--i'll admit it---but i'm pretty sure that if you stick a mono cable in a two channel jack then your only gonna pick up one side of the signal (left channel or right channel)whichever pin is touchin inside the jack...if one even touches....it's no different than the R.C.A cables--red and white--left and right--only it's through one cable comin out of the headphone jack----all i really wanted is to find a way to use our badass pa speakers as home stereo speakers weather its through the pa head or not---when i said "w/out changing anything permanently" i meant w/out doing anything to the speakers so as to make them unusable as pa speakers--ya know like changing the input jacks or somethin stupid like that..because we DO want to use them as pa speakers when we play out--but don't need them as pa speakers when we're practicin in the band room...right now we need the stereo playin in the band room when we practice because we don't have a lead guitarist...we were just tryin to save ourselves from having to buy another set of house speakers---but it's startin to look like it would be alot freakin easier...once again sorry for any confusion and thanks for all serious posts tryin to help........
