Does one need to born a singer?

personally, theres several people in my family who seem to have been born good singers, however this talent seems to escape me. I cringe when I hear myself trying and it really is pretty terrible.

Should I just accept that I can't sing, and focus my efforts completely on guitar, or is training myself to be good at any degree a possiblity?

I may not know much about this really, but your voice is just another instrument in many ways and even if you don't have alot of natural talent, you can, with practise, become good. Of course, natural ability makes it a whole lot easier but in principle anyone could learn how to sing. There are other threads on these forums where people more knowledgable than myself can give you tips. But if singing is something you really want to do then you shouldn't give up. Just remember that it takes time and lots of practise to become good at any instrument.

for the longest time i had no technique, but I've had perfect pitch my entire life. Now that I'm finally refining my perfect pitch, and my singing technique, I can see myself becoming a singer at age 19.

Buy a pitch pipe and practice. That's how I did it. I actually learned from my guitar (singing with it) but I bought a pitch pipe and that helped 10 fold.

Is a pitch pipe just one of those little things that has 6 holes you blow through attempting to tune your guitar to? I think my buddy has one of those, but I hardly see how that would help you get better pitch seeing as you can't blow through it and sing at the same time...
