View Full Version : The Meshuggah Thread

Yea, we need a thread for these guys.....they seem to take over other threads.......

So, I have I, Nothing, Destroy Erase Improve, and Catch 33........I'm a total fan of DEI, I think their older stuff was the best........

BTW, did they lose thier drummer? Is that why they used drum programming on Catch 33?

Feel free to discuss any technical metal too......I've been really getting into it lately and need some new bands to check out.

Why don't you just read up on them? Tomas didn't quit, he thought programmed drums sounded better.

That's retarded though....Catch 33 was a horrible downfall from earlier work..........and incredibly repetitive as well, which, as my band found out, comes with using programmed drums........

Catch 33 is good but a total letdown compared to Nothing.

Nothing > I > Catch 33 > Chaosphere > DEI

Spasm is my favorite Meshuggah song.

A while back, someone made a Meshuggah thread if I remember correctly. But awesome band, my favorite album is Nothing.

Favorite song is "Sublevels" (from DEI). \m/:D\m/

Never really liked them. I listened to both Destroy Erase Improve and I as well. I guess Tech Death isn't my thing. (Sorry Orestes).

Nothing > I > Catch 33 > Chaosphere > DEI

Spasm is my favorite Meshuggah song.

I is frickin insane! Its just one long *** brutal song made of every element that makes Meshuggah Meshuggah. I dont have nothing but from your rating order i guess i should get that next.

I'm sure Meshuggah are better at you at programming drums.

By the way.... Catch 33 wasn't supposed to be a load of different tracks, each track was supposed to run into the other one. It's more of a theme based album. Open your ears kthnx

I only have Catch 33.. And it's errrrrrrrrr.. interesting, i guess... Although i think is silly to have one riff for one track and then change it a bit for other ones.. Lack of diversity, i guess... I don't know.. I think it's suppose to be one big song for the whole album or something.. Someone recommend me other meshuggah album...

A very boring and over-rated band in my opinion.

Lifeless monotone vocals over music that really does not appeal to me.

Good tech music, : Psycroptic, bit of Cryptopsy, Quo Vadis, bit of tech in Decapitated.

Lifeless monotone vocals

I have only listened to few meshuggah songs and I think that's actually the
approach

I don't like them though

I love Meshuggah. They used programmed drums on Catch 33 because they didn't have time to actually record Tomas.

And I actually like Catch 33 a lot, my favorite albums are Catch 33, I and Nothing.

my fav meshuggah songs are closed eye visuals and rational gaze. and yes catch 33 is not supposed to be listened to as individual tracks. it is one long song that has been divided into parts so that its easier to skip around in and is more listenable than a 20 minute song.

Invicta_Veritas

Still horribly long and boring........
<<<likes DEI much better

I'm sure that is so. However, the resulting sound and musical direction is the same. Things tend to get repetitive and boring.

Is Chaoshpere any good?

Its good to see that the thread is holding up on here. For all of you who own Catch 33 what do you think of that solo in Entrapment. That solo is awesome. Its not real technical but it just jams. I love it.

I'm huge on Meshuggah. I have all of their main albums, though I don't have "Rare Trax" or "I", my favorite album being Contradictions Collapse :)

Unlike most listeners, I don't get bored of them. I've always loved their sound and style..

You must get Chaosphere.

I made a Meshuggah thread awhile back, it died after a few comments like "boring" and "chug-chug f4gz0rz".. it's too bad, they are a great band.

EDIT: And yeh, bout Chaosphere.....It's my second favorite Meshuggah album, only to Contradictions Collapse. It's an amazing album!

Contradictions Collapse, Chaosphere, rare trax, and the None demo/EP are the ones I don't have.........Will get them soon enough though.....

Oh wait, I dont have True Human Design.....but that's just Future Breed Machine live and remixed like 4 times for a 4-track EP.......

Chaoshpere is awesome, their most brutal release so far.

I'm a huge fan, I own almost all of their albums:
Contradictions Collapse/None
Destroy Erase Improve
Chaosphere
Nothing
I
Rare Trax

I have Catch 33 in mp3, I really don't like it, so I don't want to waste my money onit.
They really disappointed me with that album.

I like Nothing the best, awesome album, great and very tight songwriting, esp. on Perpetual Black Second.
