I put the Bongo and the Warwick Fortress on the internet classifieds to see what I could get in trade for them.

This is what I got offered so far:

For the Bongo;
G&L ASAT
Peavey Cirrus 6 with Bubinga top
2005 Black Ric 4003
Warwick Corvette
Gibson Grabber (near mint condition)

For the Fortress;
1976 White Ric 4001

As far as the Bongo trade, I ruled out the black Ric (already have one), the Corvette, and the ASAT. I'm leaning towards the Grabber, but it's still early. I was also kicking around the Cirrus because I like them.

Now, for the Fortress, the Ric does intrigue me because it's an earlier 4001 and it's white, 2 things I really like.

What I was really wanting was an Attitude Limited or Limited II. Now, I know I already have one, but for some reason, it really touched me. There's just something about the Attitudes that I really like.

First, get the Grabber.

Second, use the Fortress as firewood.

Wow, getting rid of the Bongo already?

I'd def. go for the white 4001 though. White Ricks are the sexiest.

well considering how insanely overpriced the ric market is now, a fortress for a vintage ric is an awesome trade in your direction.

grabbers are sweet too

The 10th Anniversary models are great, too. Best bass I've ever played.

You have great taste in basses, by the way.

EDIT: Have you experimented with the stereo outputs yet?

Yeah the white ric sounds sweet. And then i'd say grabber, cause a near mint one seems rare, most I've seen show plenty of ware. Otherwise I'd say the G & L, but those you can get anytime, and the way you go through basses I'm sure you will, lol

Doesn't matter what you get really, you'll only sell it again within a couple of weeks.

Get the white Ric, and keep the Bongo.

JP, it's quite sad that you'll never be content with what you have, everything comes and yo go "oMg BeS BaSs Eva!11!11!!" or something that effect and a couple of weeks later you're selling it or trading it.

Exactly. Every week there is a thread about how you got/sold another bass.

Make up your mind! :p

I don't see the big deal about the changing of gear. That's kind of part of the playing experience; getting your hands on as much great gear as you can, and experiencing the differences between them.

It's not just a quest for the "ultimate bass" but more the "ultimate basses." Plus you may have noticed that he both wants another Ric and an Attitude, so anyway, that's a step towards that if you're looking for it.

if you were feeling real generous, seeing as how you are a prosperous business man, you could donate the bongo to the "get james a really cool bass, because he has no money, cause he goes to university fund", I believe your donation is tax detuctable, and as a special bonus I will pay for shipping myself. just for you, one time deal only. now how you gonna beat that?

....and if more pity is needed, I live in wisconsin, and I really love the way that bongos look, unfortunately no one in a two hundred mile radius keeps them at their stores.

A '76 Ric for a Fortress seems like a kickass trade for you. Even if you don't like the Ric you could sell it for a sick profit I bet. Get that and the Grabber.

I think a Grabber for a Bongo isn't such a great deal..

I would trade the fortress for the white Ric. However I would keep the Bongo for now because none of the basses you have been offered sound like a good trade.

IMO the Cirrus for the bongo sounds good.. i LOVE the Cirrus's!! excellent basses...

If you like the look of ric's, i'd go for the white... i like the sound, and white would be sweet (i love white basses).. but the overall body shape just bothers me.

So you have had both of these basses for a combined total of what? 6 minutes?

Get the white ric and wait for a better deal on the bongo.

Maybe this is just me, but if I had the luthier skills you do JP I would build myself "My Ultimate Bass" rather than trying to find a bass that matches your clearly variable tastes.

Otherwise get the ric and the grabber

Well, first of all, let me start by saying that the Attitude is a bass I really like. This one will be staying with me for quite a while. I know I've said that about alot of other basses, but the Attitude has that certain something for me.

Second, I decided to go with the Grabber. I used to have one a while ago and had to get rid of it because a place to live was more important. I really regretted getting rid of that one.

Basses since 1978. Let's see if I can remember them all;

Sears Jazz bass copy (my very first bass)
Peavey T-40 (My first good bass, still have it)
Sunburst Peavey T-40
Black Peavey T-40
Peavey Cirrus 4 string
Peavey Grind 6 string
Peavey Unity Series Dyna Bass
Peavey Foundation
Custom Jazz bass (made by me)
Custom Precision Bass (made by me)
Winters Scarab
Winters Gaelic
74 White Ric 4001
78 Natural Ric 4001
2001 Natural Ric 4003S
1998 Natural Ric 4003S-8 (8 string Ric)
2005 Sunburst Ric 4003
1983 Sunburst Ric 4003 (the one with the 2 piece pickguard)
76 Black Ric 4001
2002 Ric 4003 (still have it)
Cheap Beatle Bass copy
74 Fender Precision Bass
76 Fender Precision Bass
76 Fender Jazz Bass
69 Fender Jazz bass

Ibanez ergodyne 4 string EDB (luthite body)

G&L L-2000 (Blueburst)
G&L L-2000 (Vintage Sunburst)

See, it's not that big of a list.
I know I'm forgetting a few. I'll list them as I remember them.

Well, The T-40 was a gift from my parents, so it has a special spot for me.

Not including my own, my favorite, it would probably be the Attitude Limited I got, and the Grabber I had.

Someone had asked me why I just don't build my ultimate bass. Well, that's what I'm doing, but by trying out all those others, it has helped me with what I want, and don't want, in a bass

Good answer.

Suppose that would be the way to do it, trying prety much everything under the sun.

Suppose the majority of the forum, myself very much included, wishes that they had the same "bass buying power" you did.

Give me time.................give me time.....................
