[EDIT: IT'S NOT TJR]
Ok, so I'm sure most of you have seen that '12-year-old' drummer video (http://media.putfile.com/drummer15) from drummerworld.com, I don't have a clue how do play what he plays on a lot of that video, the bit that's puzzling me most is the thing he plays from 0:15 - 0:20 seconds in.
Does he have a double bass pedal or something? Is there a rudiment that he's doing there? Sorry, I'm no beginner drummer or anything but I just can't tell from the video.
Thanks. :thumb:
Edit: Wow, 300th post.

hes pretty decent, except i HATE the sound of that set, he has a few nice fills, but it there weren't any great hooks, and yes in the 15-20sec mark, thats double bass in there.
EDIT: i'd actually be interested to hear the rest of that video, it looks like it keeps going, impressive for his age, very impressive.

Yeah, the original video is longer than that. It looks like he's doing rolls between his floor tom and his bass pedal(s).

Oh right, how annoying. I'll have to save for a double bass pedal... even though I once considered it cheating. Oh well, if you can't beat them, join them I guess...
The original quicktime video didn't have the time on, here's the original:

I saw it before the TJR video and I like it a lot better, it has more groove to it.

I wouldnt be surprised if they started at 3, it's not unheard of. Buddy Rich started at 18 months old or something

That second one looked like he was biting the air in front of him as he played.

they were pretty good. The black kid has some groove, and the white kid had a little less groove, but they were both just chopping out.
There was no musicality, I know that they could probably grow into it, but my drum teacher put it to me like this.
from his point of view, many kids can become great at drums, he's seen a ton of kids like those, but by the time they get to an age to decide what they want to do, they haven't practiced much because they think they are above par. When they come around, the kids who started much later than they did, are right up there with them and sometimes beyond them. !Especially in musicality!
You can't let guys like this get you down. You know that one in a million of these kids actually does something good.
aka... Tony Royster, his video is great, anybody seen anything recent that's been passed around? not really, cause he's par now with a lot of his contemporaries.

that second kid had chops, but ^123. the second kid probably will never play with a band, a good band at least, he never keeps the same beat, or grooves.

Yeah, one in a million kids with skills like that. I don't have skills like that and I'm probably twice his age. This means I will never go anywhere:upset: Oh well, just gotta practice more.

The music industry wouldnt be what it is if talent meant ANYTHING.:thumb:

I almost agree with you, but talent does play a major role, as does dedication. Just cause someone is talented doesn't mean that they are going to succeed, they to have the drive to succeed.
The music industry is brimming over with talent, that's why it's so hard to get a job in the music industry.
the "no talent" comment I'm sure was geared towards record execs just producing pop-tunes. which is true... but to a greater degree everyone out in the music world go there because they are good at what they do.

Seriously me and my band have an interview tommorow to star on a reality show to do with us or something, my singer was shabby on the details but hopefully well get the show. 1k at the end of it. New cases hats and hat stand if we get it.
Not to say that we aren't talented but we shouldn't be the band on tv. Off the top my head I can think of one local band much better, of course they've been together longer.

Alright, but if you get on TV, you cant ****ing support the "stupid muscley drummer that puffs out chest and does a arnold impression" sterotype ok?

Haha no problem. I was thinking what I'd do if they pull a gimmick or something and introduce me Travis. I'd probably be like "okay cool, but your not Peart".
On a side note, I flexxed(is that a word?) my lats in that video thats how my shoulders got so far out.
Also stereotypical drummer isn't puffed out chest, hes just really stupid and speeds up(cough Travis on first offense, other ****ty drummers who know nothing on second)

alright, its all good, but the last thing we need is another stupid drummer on tv. I get killed by that sterotype all the time and hate fighting it.
But, I hope you get it, Id watch the show.

Awsome, I just hope the interview goes good. I honestly don't even know what the show is going to be about or if its going to be a series or episode or w/e. That is deffinately true on the first paragraph. I would love to meet like Travis just to totally kill his image and wipe out most drummer stereotypes or someone else famous like Adrian and comment that incredible amount of groove on his songs with no doubt and that other band hes in now. I was listening to one of no doubts songs, one of the really famous ones and if you listen he was lowering the pitch of his snares rim shot to match the guitar more less and it was consistent throughout the song. Really great drummer, my 3rd cousin looks just like him.

Earlier today, I was checking out a few bands, because I'm trying to expand my musical tastes, which are currently comprised of about 90% tool and the other 10% being 15 or so other bands. As I was listening to clips of bands, nothing really seemed to get it up. Then I realized, it's because none of these people have any dynamic. There's no build or decay, it's all strong downbeats beating me over the head, without any real direction.
Anyway, that's what this kid reminds me of. He's OK (regardless, I still don't think he's much better than your run-of-the-mill high-school drummer), but he has no dynamic or sense of direction, judging on what he played there. Thats the difference between playing music and getting on my nerves
