Title explains it....what does everyone suggest the best pu's are for a Jazz Bass. I just bought a body off ebay and need suggestions. Include reasons.

You've been long enough around, I'm sure the obvious question is, what are you mainly looking for?
Diversity? Growl? Low-end? Thump? Blah blah.
It would all be subjective if you don't specify.

Hrmm, good point.
I'll take growl and low end thanks.
How about everyone just says why they think certain pu's are their favourite? I can make a decision off that then.

Dimarzio Model Js for the growl
Barts for low end.
Maybe try a mix and match, I have always wondered if that could work.

Like a Bart at the neck and a Dimarzio at the Bridge?

Pretty much.
I am wondering myself.

I roll with a bart neck pup and quarter pounder bridge. I have called off the search for anything else at this point as I am entirely pleased with the outcome.

Bart in neck and Model J in bridge = ultimate growl and low end sex <3
I had a J with DiMarios...loved it. It sounded awesome.

Whats the main differences between the Model J's and the Quater pounder pu's?

Barts won't give you much growl. Atleast the ones I had growled less than a cute littke kitty nicknamed Sarah.
Go DiMarzio.

First of all, they are different brands. First is DiMarzio, second is Basslines.
With that said, they are a completely different tone.

Don't try to mix and match, especially with barts and dimarzios. You run into impedence problems, and the mismatch between the different types of magnets won't be pretty.
My personal suggestions are Lindy Fralins. Amazing pickups, amazing service, amazing tone.
Nordstrands are also great pickups.
You can have both ordered custom made for your needs (within reason).

I knew they where different brands. I was asking for the tone differences.

The Dimarzios are more growly bass/mids. The Quater Pounders let through more treble/bite.

Duncans are really bright, and give a more modern tone, unlike the others.

Dimarzio's it is.
So people dont think i should mix and match?

It's a horrible idea.
One pickup will overpower the other in terms of volume and all.

Its not a good idea, and youll probably waste alot of money searching for the right combination.
