Hey guys, I was wondering if you knew of any hard rock/metal bands that played tunes taken from video games? I'm specifically looking for Nintendo games like Zelda and Metroid (my 2 favorite series), as well as stuff from F-Zero, Mario, etc...

I'm not sure if there are even professional sounding bands who do this sort of thing, but if there are I thought I'd ask here. Thanks.

I think that HORSE the Band is your best bet. They don't cover Nintendo songs, but they did create the genre Nintendo-Core. Go exploring.

The Black Mages is the only one I can think of. They do the Final Fantasy music in a progressive metal vogue.

No, they made up that genre and pretended it really exists, which it doesn't.

Sytem of a Down has a song about Legend of Zelda, and with some savvy internet searching you sould be able to find it.

The System of a Down song is actually by a band called "The Rabbit Joint" I think. But what I'm really looking for is actual Nintendo songs remixed in a hard rock/metal style.

a fight about "nintendo core"? don't lie to yourself, their is no such thing. I have no intention to argue with you about this, but I find just the concept of "nintendo core" hysterical.

You down with OPP?

yeah you know me.

Anyone ever play Chrono Trigger?

A guy named Ashane did a metal cover of the song that plays while you are on the Zeal world map (Time Circuits). The only bad thing about the song is the corny quotes, but they are at the end of the song so that is ok.

Wow, thanks man. That's almost exactly what I was looking for. Too bad they only have a few songs up. :( Absolutely great version of Mute City though.

Still holding out for some Zelda/Metroid remixes. :p

No one's mentioned the Minibosses.

http://minibosses.com/

THey've been around for a while, they are dedicated to playing classic videogame tunes as a hard rock/metal act. They have alot of classics covered, Mario Bros 2, Contra, Zelda, Castlevania, etc.

I've heard of the Minibosses before, but I can't seem to find many of their songs online. They have like 3 or 4 songs on their website, but only one is from a game I've played (Mario 2). Would anybody here happen to have some?

I did notice on their tour page that they did some concerts with similar bands. I checked out a song or 2 from the band NESkimos (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=91259) and it was pretty impressive. Lot of Zelda tunes, which makes me happy. :)

hahahaha yeah that is pretty hysterical. if there is such thing as "nintendocore" (which i highly doubt) i would love to hear a cover of the original super mario bros theme

Not a cover, but a remixed version of "One" by Metallica was used in some war-based game.

HORSE the band just uses a lot of NES-esque synth and some out-dated voice sampling to make it sound a bit Nintendo-ish at times. They're basically a hardcore band with a gimmick.

The Black Mages own all, though. :)

TS, i transcribed Metroids Brinstar theme for guitar, and put it to a heavy metal style theme. Ive jammed on it a few times actually.
