Out of those the Gretsch.
I still don't reccomend any of those sets though...

Gretsch - Birch shells
Yamaha - Philliping Mahogany shells
Taye - Birch/Basswood shels
That's one difference between those kits. Another is the finish. I see a wrap finish there and a lacquer finish. Another is the prices...
If you can figure out exactly what you want, your disicion will be much easier. Also, have you looked at other intermediate kits? If not, there is a long list of great value kits...

It really depends on your price range and what you're looking for... Take a look here:

Intermidiate kits usually come in birch or maple although mixes with other woods aren't uncommon. What seems to be the sound you're looking for?

before you buy any new kit get an understanding of the woods ur looking for, no offense but you dont reallly seam to know much about wood. you named 3 kits with 3 totally different shell compostions.

Don't cha think that is why he is asking.
Well you might like the catalina. I don't, I had 2 bad expiriences with them. Albeit, They do sound good, they had a problem holding there tuning. Also In lower tunings the floortom tended to quake at certain dynamic levels, making HORRIBLE sounds. But If you use higher tunings that might not happen (?)
I would save up the extra dough and get a Sonor force 3005.

If youre looking for a birch kit then dont get a Gretsch. Theyre hardware is cheap and of low standard.
Mapex M Birch is £170.00 cheaper than the Catalina is way way better than all of the kits you stated in your original post.
Also, there is a £4.00 difference between a Sonor 3005 and a Gretsch Catalina Birch. At Drum Shop the Gretsch = £595.00 and at E Cymbals a 3005 is £599.00 with free delivery and hardware pack.
A great buy there but youre not in the UK

M birch are my favourite kits so far even compared to mapex orion, tama star classic and numerous premier kits, they're my sort of sound, and i own one.
Out of the original threads kits Yamaha's are my favourite.

WRONG
The tom mounts are good , lugs are great , bass drum spurs are excellent , claws are great. only thing about the hardware is the 1.6mm hoops which can be upgraded.
the gibraltar 5600's series stuff is great

Taye makes some awesome drums dude. They sound great, look great, and have some really nice hardware. Out of the three I would def. go taye.
