I've decided I want to step up my snare to a pro level drum. I was looking at something not too expensive in the 200-300 $ range.
The requirements are that it has to be maple and probably atleast 14x5.5
I was thinking a starclassic or mmx, any sugestions?

yea, i would say look at artwood snares from Tama, or a black panther, or maybe a custom snare from like conaway

Artwoods do look pretty good for the money.
Only reason I would still consider a standard starclassic snare/mmx is that they have die cast hoops

Not sure on the US price of these but, i have a Mapex black panther (brass) snare and it sound awesome, has a good range/diversity of tunings so it fits all sorts of styles.
'tis a really nice snare
