From smnnews.com:
"If you found yourself being disappointed by this year's Ozzfest lineup, it seems as if you can relax. The event's organizers have announced in their latest press release that the lineup was indeed fake, sort of. Festival organizer and founder Sharon Osbourne revealed today that the previously announced lineup (featuring bands such as DISTURBED and ATREYU) was announced prematurely to gauge fan reactions, when in fact, none of the bands were officially confirmed. "We just wanted to see how the fans would react to the bands we were considering," stated Osbourne. "The overwhelming reaction to the bands was negative, so I knew we had to go back to the drawing board in order to make this year a success." However, she soon realized that in order for this year's festival to be a success against the stiff competition presented by some of the newer U.S. festivals, they would need the help of one of metal's most well respected bands: IRON MAIDEN.
"I was childish...I admit it," said Osbourne, reflecting on last year's incident involving the legendary band's singer, Bruce Dickinson. "Anyone who knows me, knows that I tend to overreact. Thankfully Bruce and the boys are gentlemen and we've been able to put all of the ugliness behind us in order to give the fans what they want, because let's face it, IRON MAIDEN were the biggest draw last year." And if that wasn't enough, another legendary British heavy metal band, who are also an Ozzfest alumni, will be co-headlining the festival with them. "We were trying to figure out how we could possibly top the past two years of MAIDEN and PRIEST, when we said '**** it, why not just have them both this time?"
Along with those two legendary metal titans (who will rotate spots each night) and the festival's namesake, OZZY OSBOURNE in select markets, the revised lineup for this year's Ozzfest boasts an impressive and diverse group of both legendary and up-and-coming bands, which offers a stark contrast in comparison to the group of more trendy bands originally announced. The festival's new lineup consists of:
Main Stage:
OZZY OSBOURNE (select shows only)
IRON MAIDEN (headliner)
JUDAS PRIEST (headliner)
TESTAMENT
KING DIAMOND
MACHINE HEAD
NEVERMORE
Second Stage:
ANTHRAX (headliner)
NAPALM DEATH (co-headliner)
TOMAHAWK (co-headliner)
--------rotating--------
CRYPTOPSY
SUFFOCATION
THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN
--------rotating--------
3 INCHES OF BLOOD
CEPHALIC CARNAGE
DARK TRANQUILLITY
HORSE THE BAND
IMPALED
INTO ETERNITY
THE RED CHORD
SIKTH
With Ozzfest finally attempting to accurately represent the metal community, you're probably wondering where that leaves the bands originally announced for this year's tour. Rumors are currently circulating that most of the rejected bands will embark on a tour of their own sponsored by MTV, Hot Topic, and Lambgoat. More information will be posted as soon as it's released.
Happy April Fools Day"
