Today my friend asked me out to her brother's party, and I already have plans and don't really want to go, but I kind of gave her the impression that I would(cos I'm weak and can't say NO straight out).

Now my plans involve going driving with another friend, and I don't mind doing that for a quiet Saturday night instead of going drinking or whatever(beats staying here). But to her, driving out wouldn't seem like plans for a night out.

What would your excuse be to my friend for not going to the party?

I can't go to the party because I don't like you.

You could try telling them that you do not want to go.

I can't go to the party with you, a female, because I'd rather go driving around with a dude

i had a cool excuse for being 45 minutes late at lunch break on wednesday:
"where were you at lunch!"

"uh I was sneaking around the office setting all the clocks ahead 45 minutes..."

So you never go ANYWHERE with a male person? right..

I'm trying to phase this person out so to speak, she gives me nothing but grief and ruins my good times lots, but thinks she's such a good friend. And the driving plan presents opportunities with more ladies than baing at this friends' place.

It's just that I'm weak and can't just say no to people or deny someone something unless it's totally important, especially her because she doesn't accept a "no" for an answer. I'll probably just call her and say "uh, I forgot that I'm doing **** tonight", and end the call ASAP.

I don't understand why people make a big deal out of situations like this one. Just tell her you had made plans with another friend but you forgot.

Tell her family issues or something, because that way you really dont need to make an excuse just tell her family problems and if she asks what exactly just say "I dont really wanna talk about it" as long as you feel o.k lying to someone, about the well-being of your family, and she doesnt know your family closely, then your sorted.

Though I would also distance myself from someone if I found myself making excuses to get away from them.
