i was wondering if some of you could help me out with drum modules.
i am currently looking into buying a trigger and module for my acoustic kit, to trigger up the bass drum.
i have seen a few modules, but i was looking for a pretty standard one. modules like the Alesis DM5 have 12 tigger inputs are and about 50million samples, all i really want is a standard one, with 1-4 trigger inputs and a good range of samples.
any one got any suggestions?
thanks for your time

I haven't experimented with that many mods. But I like my Roland TD-6. It's not too complicated to tweak,& has some sweet Roland samples of their classic 808's & 909s and all that stuff. Plenty of other good samples too.
People say good things about Rolands mods, but that their pads are overpriced.

It's about 500 samples I believe, you may aswell get an Alesis D4/DM5/DMPro as they are very well priced and allow you to expand laer should you want to. Alternatively, Roland sell a Trigger to MIDI convertor with, I think 6 inputs, which youcould hook up to a sampler (I use the cheap and cheerful [albeit, ancient] AKAI S1000 which I picked up for about £100 on eBay) and use your own sounds with.

You probably wont find it. Modules that possess better/more samples are generally quite diverse and made to accommodate complete drumsets with the capacity for 12 or more trigger ports.
If price is no object, Id wait - Apparently the rumour is that ddrum are working on a ddrum5 module. I used to own a Dm5, and as good as it was, I wouldnt buy it now.

There is another option. Though possibly more expensive.
If you own a laptop, a decent one currently, you can purchase a fairly cheap external midi box and run the trigger and samples via the laptop.
This is VERY common for drummers who play live with loops, etc to use computers off to the side. Course that seems only realistically applicable if both the music, venue and budget can support it.
Like Damo said though, it's going to be very very hard to find a "small" module.
^ Just make sure your laptop is powerful enough to respond when you need it to.
No Im not from Cairns. If I was, I probably wouldnt have electricity at the moment :) A rather nasty cyclone hit close to that region about 2 weeks ago.
Re: the ddrum5 - Not sure, but we could be looking end of this year. I really havent been given any info on it yet, and Australians may need to wait longer.

if cost is your factor, go with the alesis D4.
finding a "small" module will be AKA old, used ebay.
