what is the difference in different amounts of ply? i wanna get custom drums and i never understood this, like what each kinda play sound like?

More plies = "poppier", higher pitched, less resonant among other things (those are the most important)
Any snare drum over 20-plys is gonna sound like a piccolo, basically. Ten plies = drumgasm.

For Keller Shells:
6 ply= most resonate, least volume
10 ply=, least resonate, most volume
8 ply= in between.
