Ok I know that this has probably been posted like a few thousand times before, but can someone please explain heal-toe to me. If you could, please explain it by every little movement your foot makes, because I have been trying to get it down for a while and its really starting to get me mad that I can't do it. Remember that you are trying to explain it to a retard so try to give me a really good description of how to do it.
Ethan.

Why don't you work on controlling your calf to a point where you don't need heel toe.

I linked to Darkslide's videos, which are pretty damn good.
Ummm... I really don't know how to explain it any better. Heel-toe is just how you walk expanded to the drumkit. Just think... rocking motion.

Elaborate, if you would be so kind.

You have to do it in one fluid motion.
The heel itself does not produce the hit (unless you do it a very specific way which shall be ignored here). What produces the double is the motion. I have said this time and time again...
You must do the MOTION of heel-toe to produce the double.
What helps would be to take your shoes off if you're wearing them. I CANNOT do heel-toe with shoes on (or barefoot, for that matter).
And for the record, Futuro, there are things I can do with heel-toe that I can't heel-up/down.

Elaborate, if you would be so kind. Play fast, with no *secret* motion. It's not like heel toe or slide is the only way to do double strokes.

Practice and you can...
That is to say, similar to your hands, with practice, your foot will become naturally faster, yes?

Haha, I know, I know, and I'm working on it. I still like heel-toe, though.

i dont see how the hell "The motion" produces a double stroke.. when i do it it just hits once and stays on the bass head until i lift my toe :| im probably doing it wrong.. but whatever..

Put your toes under the cam.
Push down until the beater's hitting the head.
Now, try and produce a hit using only your heel (raising your calf and whatnot).
Once you got that (flatfoot), expand it into the heel-toe double.

Wow.. that little short explaination did way better than those long huge ones with the videos :| i tried whay you said and i think i actually got it now.. my leg got tired after a few minutes but at least i got it :|

Haha, yeah.
That long way is basically how I first did heel-toe. Now, after knowing flatfoot, I've realized learning that first and then expanding to heel-toe is probably an easier way of doing it.
Your leg's gonna get tired, too, but it'll be fine after you get used to it.

I've seen a clip from Steve Smith's DVD that shows a motion that sounds remarkably similar to what you described. Did you get the Rhythm magazine that came with the free DVD, or do you own History of the US Beat? If not, can anyone else confirm what I suspect?

You haven't heard of Steve Smith's History of the US Beat DVD? :amaze:
Well, that could've proved useful. Shame. Know of any free software that would allow me to "aquire" information from a DVD?
