Which artists have the most distinct voices...to the point where you could hear one line of new material and know exactly which band it is?

Billy Corgan - Smashing Pumpkins (Not that i like them or anything)

Morrissey - Morrissey

Mikael Akerfeldt - Opeth

Maynard - Tool/APC

Cedric - Mars Volta

Those are just i few, i could think of tons more.

Les Claypool - Primus

Neil Young - Neil Young

Tom Waits - Tom Waits

Thom Yorke - Radiohead (Unless they were doing something really weird with his voice, of course)

Mikael Akerfeldt, both his growl and his singing I would recognise instantly, moreso his cleans.

Axl Rose; surely everyone knows it's Axl when he sings even if you've only heard a handful of songs.

Shadows from A7X; in the same vein as Axl these days.

Bruce from Maiden, he's just... Bruce, he always sounds (distinctively) the same.

Matt Bellamy from Muse, very unique voice.

Fogerty's voice is unmistakable. Often imitated, never duplicated. :) I can usually tell if it's a band I know well, even if it's just from the radio. JAgger's voice is easily recognizable, so is Morrison's, Daltrey's etc. I can always pick out Robert Plant's whine, too.

I agree with Bruce Dickinson, he has an amazing voice.

Also, the late Layne Staley of Alice In Chains.

Layne was amazing. I cant believe I missed him considering I listened to Dirt today.

Mikael Akerfeldt, Robert Plant, Geddy Lee, Eddie Vedder (despite virtually every rock singer of the 90s imitating his style)

King Diamond has an amazing voice also.

Glenn Danzig has a very memorable voice IMO.

My bass guit teacher went ot see the AIC reuion, and said he disliked the singer they had (may have been Keenan?) No one could replace Layne.

I think Keenan replaced him. No one can replace Layne. He has such a definitive voice.

King Diamond is an extreme example of this:p
No-one has a voice like his.

I'd say Hansi Kursch.

Id say Phil Anselmo of Pantera/SJR/Down, Bruce Dickinson and James Labrie. Labrie would make a good power metal singer.

Johnny Cash people!

And many of these metal singers aren't really unique at all. The average person who doesn't listen to any of that couldn't really tell the difference.

You can usually tell Bob Dylan...crappy dynamics and out of key...same with Raine Maida

Mmm, not assumtions from anyone who doesn't know the genre.

I disagree with Bruce Dickison and Phil Anselmo having unqiue voices. The singer from Edguy sounds heaps like Bruce and the Phil strapped off the Exhorder singer.

Randy Blythe has a easy recognized voice.
