View Full Version : Baudin got another 12 string

I just saw his bulliten on myspace... i know some of you are into his stuff.. and this actually is a pretty 'normal' 12 string (as opposed to the Hideous Claw)
made by JP?! (i'll assume it's not our JP)

And I'm honestly not sure anyone cares that much anymore. Yeah, it's cool and stuff, but oh well. It's just another person getting another bass.

i'm the only one that thinks this is a little crazy, im not really into the whole million strings thing, its cool i guess but meh..a little too crazy for me. And that would be a bitch to change the strings
it looks nice...but damn, 12 strings? **** that.
You people really have no appriciation for the tapper's plight.
I feel your need, Jean. I feel it.

He plays bass, not stick. Maybe that's why.

true but wouldn't you think if he was so involved with tapping, the chapman stick would be a much more "efficient" route

It's an entirely different instrument. How is it more efficient to completely re-learn how to play on a new instrument when you can do it on one you're comfortable with?

he's amazing and not many (if any) others can do what he does, but i don't think he has much pure musical merit. i think it's kinda just shock value at this point, i mean if he can't satisfy his vision with eleven damn strings then i don't know if there's a whole lot going on.
oh and i have a question-- what the hell is his income? i know his band isn't that popular, but i know he has an excessive amount of basses and expensive effects.
yeah very true, but what about tony levins:rolleyes:
Completely different route. Who said he wants the bass just for tapping? Sticks are COMPLETELY different from bass guitar.

What do you mean, what a bass is for? It's for whatever you want it for. You can go ahead and limit yourself, but don't even try to criticize people for being creative. It's people like you who perpetuate the "bass is easier than guitar" stereotype that most people believe, because the way you're describing, it is.

I don't know anyone that is a sick tapper and can't play normally. How can any form of expression be useless? I'm sure they said bass solos were useless 30 years ago, 70 years ago, non-upright basses were probably useless.
It's annoying when people view bass as a finished work of art, when it's really still a half-finished canvas that's up to us to paint.

I think it's awesome. It looks sweet, and I know Jean will be able to use the extra string. He is a genious like that. People who are whining about how 12 strings is too much are jealous because they will never be half the player he is. He's not some rich kid who's getting this to play Blink, he uses all the strings.
And the idea of tapping being useless, are you serious? To say one technique is useless and "below" playing "normally" is just asinine. He makes music people really like to listen to by tapping, it is obviously not useless.
D-mart: I think he said on his Myspace that he realized his cd didn't flow well in his mind, so he is making more songs and releasing three cds each will a seperate style, one solo bass like vanishing, one more like Nuclear Rabbit stuff with vocals, and one with something else.

He's having to re-work it or something, cos he had too many tracks in differents sounding genres i.e. Death Metal then Medlodic Jazz or somthing, so he's either gonna write a whole load more and make 3 cds, or trim it down to 1
I think...

I've answered this before but:
1) I don't like the reversed tunings
2) I don't like that you have wear a strap (I practice sitting down)
3) I don't like the tone
4) they look stupid (to me)
5) an 11/12-string has more notes (low F#, low C# and w/ the 12 High Ab)
6) I play regular bass (fingerstyle, slapping) too - not just tapping.
That is why I don't play a Chapman Stick.

one of the only things that i dont get about these kinds of erb's that go lower than the low B is the question of why. isn't like the low C# the lowest that humans can hear or something like that?
in all the videos i've seen if people playing 11 and 12 stringers, they never ever play the lower strings. so whats the point of putting them on there?

Yeah. That's how ****ing stupid you idiots look. Learn to realize people have opinions. The bass guitar was initially created as a subordinate instrument. Thus the title "double bass." So before you discredit their arguement with stupidity, realizing that the logic of "get a guitarist" is just as justified as broad musical perspective would be key.
Until you morons are capable of doing that, shut the **** up.
