Sorry mods but I have no other way of contacting him.
Anyway JP I started making a website and thought of you.

http://enola-studio.co.uk/winters/index.php

It isn't superbly fancy but I think you might be interested

It would be completely free (I'm a student, not exactly qualified to sell websites) if you're interested.
What do I get out of this? Practice and the satisfaction of knowing I made a website for you, your basses are beautiful:thumb:
Leave an email address or something if you are interested; I'd need to keep in touch to get all the content done and what links need putting down and stuff.

Again, sorry mods, can you please not lock this until JP has read it.

See what you can do with it. What do you need from me.

I'll start with my email address. jwinters7@cox.net

From you JP I'll be needing what content you want on it.

I'll actually finish the design before I start with the content but I was just wondering if you were interested first.

/back to work

I probably wont reply till tomorrow because I'm in the UK and it's bed time for me soon.

edit: oh yeah is there any specifics you want in the design?

JP do you have the original pictures of all the basses?

Edit: Also thanks for the Gav Points, Gav:thumb:

Edit2: Alright I've updated it some more. That's all I have time for tonight, I'm up early tomorrow and it's hitting 1am, damn daylight saving times.

That's quite the coincidence Jody, I've been looking for someone to help do PHP-based apps
http://www.enola-studio.co.uk is my actual website.

Also for JP aswell as Jody: i_am_mr_kippling@hotmail.com

Oh and as for Tryxx, I'm also on 1280x1024 and I see your point, I'll see if I can maybe make a logo hang out on the right or something after college.

I think it's XHTML or the standardised markup thing. Maybe you can get away with just formatting it to something like that. Otherwise you might accomodate it for someone like me and shut others out.

I like this site, for fun. http://qntm.org/design

I'd be putting the logo as a background, I would set it so it's on the right hand side and vertically centered, and make it not repeat, it'd be visible in smaller resolutions but if I do everything right, it should work out.

XHTML doesn't come into it, CSS > all

Edit: Also about the resizinng, I could do it, but the problem lies in the amount of content, when you have a larger resolution (eg 1600x1200) and the table goes all the way accross, and you lack content, the website then lacks vertically and would only fill half a page or so, due to JP's current site I can see that the content is kinda lacking, which is fine in my current design.

Logo it is!

nice site. I'm currently making a website for george smed. Just something I offered to make for him for free. He's a very nice guy.

I would change the logo a bit, the scarab's body is cut of in a weird way like this.

Do you code as well?

What I really wanted to do was a few smaller scripts, a shoutbox, FAQ/knowledge bass engne, lyrics database ,etc. Something to get me sharp again(I havent gotten to work with anyone in a while) and then offer free lance stuff while doing a few bigger products on the side like a discussion forum or CMS unit.

I really dig your work because it's simplistic but still heavily graphic and eye-friendly. If your interested, it may pay eventually :thumb:

That sounds perfect for me, I actually might have a project or 2 already for you:naughty:

If you could, would it be possible to start thinking about one for JP... he's mentioned about getting annoyed at the price quotes, so a nice simple script that works from a form would be good, adding up all the prices and displaying the result, nothing fancy but I think it'd cut JP some slack:).

I do code a little, CSS and (X)HTML are about as far as I go

Send us an email sometime and I'll get in touch.

For now, just use those.

Also, you'll notice that some links go to other manufacturers web sites like pickups, eq's and such. Keep those like that, as it will be easier than getting pics and descriptions of all those.

Radiance.

JP's site would actually be pretty fun. I have a system of mine that I used to use back when I did freelance with Nefarious PHP. Its a pretty basic system: mysql database interaction, skinning, a module system(every page is index.php?module=home, prices, gallery, etc), and pretty routine error handing. It needs a bit of dusting and a few upgrades and bug fixes but I could have that by the end of the day if you want to do JP's site in PHP.

i imagine getting ahold of you being in the UK wold be a tad bit difficult, but once you gave me an idea of how you wanted me to do things I can just get anything I need content wise from JP.

I'm emailing you as well, but I think your online at the momment...

He said he can't make any more basses, or take any new clients rather, for a while because he has like 8 basses that he's making.

Now suddenly he has a website, and some hoes, and the full nine yards.

For sure JP has been popular since he stopped taking orders, but he seems better known now for buying/selling like 5 basses a week. I haven;t heard much about his customs since he stopped advertising. Before he stopped there were a ton of Winters threads.

Hey Jody, I'm not exactly sure how to go about PHP so you may need to tell me what I'd need to do to get it all functioning, it sounds like it'd be alot simpler to update.

Also Atomicant, I wouldn't know, I'm not an artist ;)

Jody LeCompte
03-29-2006, 03:38 PM
Well. Im a bit untraditional. I take what most people say is an unnecessarily long time to make things easier in the long run. I stress usability and admin capabilities. The template system for instance is fully dynamic.

<?php
//Loads the skins from the database
$_SKIN->load('header, footer, index_content');
//Sets the title varible in the header template and shows that
$_SKIN->page_title = 'Gallery';
eval($_SKIN->display('header'))
//All the code to pull the gallery images from the database that I havent coded yet
$_SKIN->display('index_content')
//Heres where I wrap it up
$_SKIN->display('footer')
?>

Now that's sparing specifics of course. But all I need you to do is finish the sites layout completely. Including all the other sub pages so I can work around them. The instruments page for instance, whatever pretty table you chose.

I do alot of Admin CP stuff to make things easier as well. For instance, if things worked out how I like them to JP could add a new bass design, or his newest creation, post news, etc with a few clicks.

BV: You know that site Neopets? :lol: I used to use Visual Basic to program little cheat applications. I had an application that stole stuff from the money tree, an application that bought items frm the stores at a price I set(a cheap price) and automatically stocked them for a profit, etc.

PHP isn't very useful as far as hackng business. But apparently MX thinks so because the [code] things are blocked.

Radiance: I already have the site so far on my computer, I'm working on applying the system I was telling you about. It was actually written out for a software piece I was working on caled LeCompte Media Blog. So I'm trying to modify the code as I go to make it more portable so it's taking a bit longer but hopefully by Saturday I'll be done and be able to get ahold of you in a more live setting(do you use any IM services?)

One thing I should tell you is Im only 15. I tend to let my code speak for me but a lot of people just tend to overlook the 8 years of expierence and refuse to work with me because of my age. You see, my dad is a web designer so when I was 8 years old I got into it. I chose PHP because I prefer the backend so much more, and it's just more fun. Imo.

You mentioned a few other projects, what do you have in mind? Is it websites for people or continously sold applications?

Lastly, I don't care if its work for free, as long as I have permission to use the sites I code for in my portfolio. I would link to your site as the designer/artist of course, and give a detailed desccription as part of my portfolio as to what my role was.

I just wanted to lay a few things out. Everything else should be arranged live, maybe Friday, Saturday, or Sunday I could catch you on IM sometime in the Evening. I believe your 6 hours ahead of me so I could probably be online 12pm-10om your time to iron out any final details.

Seems like working with you will be fun, it's always good to work with talent. :thumb:

radiance
03-30-2006, 02:55 AM
Jody age means nothing to me, I'm not exactly an old man myself, I'm only 17 myself and I know that experience isn't everything, even if you have had 8 years experience, which is quite gob-smacking for a 15 year old lol.

I have MSN, but I could download any other if you don't have it.

Also that's the final design, I was going to be working on the other pages (same design, but with pictures and stuff) but it seems like your sorting all that out for me :thumb: though I do intend to change 'bass animation' into an actual animation with some bass guitars :p

The other projects I mentioned were just for my blog/portfolio site. I just want a news posting thing and something that would make it easier to link to pictures in my gallery, I'll give you more details when we get in contact.
