hi, I just thought since I play bass in this band, I would post our recordings here, and hope for some feedback, please no comments on Gorilla, as I know the bass is really bad in that one.

Thanks!

good basslines. nice and solid, no unneeded show-offness. it's good.

unfortunately, you have one of the worst drummers i've ever heard. he never stays on time, in Gorilla (i know you said not to comment about it, but this is about the drums not bass) he does off-time fills for like 30 seconds while the guitar is playing the main riff about 2/5 of the way into the song. he doesn't even play the drumbeat, he just goes "ba-du-dumm......(stops playing).... da-dum-dum-dummm.............." over and over for now reason.

so kick him out immediately.

also your singer wasn't ever on key really. get him lessons or drop him.

hahahaha yeah hope i didn't come off too harsh. guitar and basswork is written very well and played nice and solid. unfortunately you have 2 hinderences though, and they need either lessons or replacements.

Actually, though they didn't fit the song very well, they were still in time.

Key doesn matter much if it sounds fine.

and maybe its just my hearing but it sounds pretty good.

agreed, drummer needs work.

The vocalist wasn't out of key, he just wasn't interesting. It sounds almost as if he's about to fall asleep.

Overall that didn't impress me at all. Your drummer=crappy. Your timing=crappy. In this genre of music, timing, solidity, and form are nearly as important, if not more so, than the actual notes themselves. It has to jive and flow with melodious force, which it sorely did not.

Actually, since we recorded, that's what I've been trying to work on the most (my timing). I'd like to think it's getting better, but it's probably still just as bad. At least now I come in with everyone else.

I agree with sr800....

The bass was good, but a little repetative.. I would have layed down some root notes between those "dudududu" fills to keep it interesting.

I quite like the bass in Gorilla, actually. Sadly, you're not tight at all, especially not your drummer. And your guitarists' sound is horrible, tell him to at least change sound between the songs. And your singer has a nice voice, but he sounds so bored.

Thanks, the only reason I said ignore Gorilla is because I made a lot of mistakes, I also like the bass line, but I didn't know the song very well, so the changes were even sloppier than the other songs.

What did your drummer say?

aks_29
03-29-2006, 07:26 PM
He said that he was a bit off that day, or something like that. He seems to be playing better now in practices, but there's still the odd fill that doesn't work very well, but he did fix Gorilla.

I kinda like the music.

Reminds me of NoFx, but I dont like NoFx

Turn up the guitar a LITTLE bit and the vocals some, and it'll sound way better if you ask me. Maybe rock out a bit more.

The mixing is very very poor, do a bit of research on that sort of thing. Good sounding stuff though.

I like what the drummer did in Gorilla for the most part with those fills. It was like a drum solo; IMO pretty cool man. However his actual ability to groove isn't that great. You guys just aren't extremely tight yet, but you'll get there. Interesting basslines, tho. They did the job :)

Thanks, these recordings were done about a month ago, and we've been practicing a lot since then. I'd like to think that we've improved, but I can't really tell.
