alright, so april 29th my band is playing this show, and im having a drum dual with a drummer from another band. im a decent drummer, except, ive never like dualed before, and im not exactly sure of what to play, like, fast rolls, beats, mixes. I know the best thing to do is mix it up, but ugh. I dont know where to start.

Start with a "duel" :p

I dunno what to tell you, but you shud rehearse something before the show or just jam together see how it goes.

oh right, i had a different meaning, haha. woops.
yea i think the hardest part for me, is just deciding on how to start my turns.

We'll I say you start off with a beat 4 bars, then he plays it. Then you add on to it and then he does then u hold the beat while he solos over it for 4 beats then u solo over it....then one of u stops and the other solos, then you switch...then you both play the beat again adding ur own thing at the same time and end BIG.

Just do crowd pleasers if it is in front of alot of people. Everyone will be amazed by your "speed" and "technique" and they will proclaim you as a god.

Try to mix in chops with musical ideas. Don't just turn the whole thing into a chopfest. If you do and he has the better chops then you will look pretty stupid.

Whats with all the spelling corrections going on in this thread? lol

Also, if you've never practiced playing with this guy before you two are prolly going to loook like idiots anyway. If you two aren't on the same page you'll look like fools and sound horrid.

However, if you two play together a fair amount and understand how to groove with each other, it might work out alright. I'm not a huge fan big drum solos, with one or two players.

no no i think you are getting this all wrong, its not supposed to be planned to play together, its all on the spot, he plays, then i have to play something to top it. theres going to be 1 set, and we take turns. Im just wondering what I should play.

try.. boomchickapadumdumchickpanoobbumboomboomhahagrethi ytpaa and end with a big GGREEETTH

sorry can't help much. if your audience are typical ignorant people then just hit everything fast. if they appreciate music. then groove with some chops thrown in.

duels are usually rehearsed a hundred times before there performed.

also. if you have to ask. your not ready to do one. no one wants to hear a solo you got the ideas for off the internet. how original is that?

it makes sense..but it isnt a traditional way of doing it. basicly it is to see who is the better drummeR?
