Well it's been awhile since i've been on this board, but checking out some threads i saw a fews names i recognized.
So spring breaks started up and i've got the uncanny idea to build an amp casing so i can get rid of the ugly storage container in my basement, and have a container that will blend in as it will look like an amp. As far as bulding the shape i'm pretty set, i'll probably use plywood and then for the shelf i'll use shelving wood (but i'm an amateur in woodworking, so if that's not right help is appreciated).
My real question is about the outside, as i'm not entirely sure what to put around the wood. I'm thinking that i want a material similar to that of a Fender Bassman amp (most fenders i think). I don't really want plastic, because i think that would be getting into tools i don't own. Also when i went into a local music store they said i could find the mesh stuff they use on most amps (ie that of a fender) at any fabric store, but if anyone knows the name that would be great.
Any thoughts/help appreciated, thanks guys.

Tolex being the material on a fender casing? Is it very pricey?

probably..... your best bet would just to use carpeting. it is found on some amps and is easier and cheaper to get. tolex, or something similar would probably be pricy but you might find it at a hardware store.

I was always under the impression that one could get tolex for a very reasonable price?

I don't have much to add, except that that is a really cool idea.

Cover it in flanel dude.

You know how sweet that would be?

Even better would be old cut up jeans from thrift stores.

Thanks for the help, carpeting actually sounds like a decent idea, especially since it's just for looks so it doesn't matter if it really feels different. Thanks for the help, keep suggestion comin guys!

i personally wouldnt use plywood. not that its not strong enuff just when i make my amp case(love the amp in my crate but hate the speaker.) id like to use rabit and dado joints. and thats a pain in the *** with plywood.(and comprimises the structural integerity of plywood) id go with a nice peice of pine, that is one that has little knots. and make ur design/measurments before u buy the wood so u can check and make sure u can cut ur wood with no knots at the joints.
