So my parent's just got back today from Kuwait (they went there to spend a fortnight with my aunt/uncle). Anyway, they brought us gifts back! My brother got a Sheesha (sp?) and I got this:

:D Its rather cool! Its tuned E3, G2, A3.
Does anyone know what its called or any information about it? Its fretting is.. interesting! (and missing 2 frets!)
So, what do you think? :)

Sounds very cool! Just been fingerpicking it and it sounds really good! :D Need to work out some songs on it!
Its great because the wood and cutting and finish is the tackiest you've seen in the world but it's got tons of character!

Not only do I know what it is, but here's a song that features it:

peeted: debatable! I like my present better although his is rather cool too! I might have a go on it tomorrow :)

I don't think it is a Saz.. because mine has a guitar like slab body which is about 2" thick.. unless they make Saz's like that?

I really don't think that is a saz. A saz has double course strings and a body like a lute. Also that kind of wacked out headstock wouldn't be the slightes't bit normal for a saz.

I, too, don't believe it's a Saz. :)

It's actually not a bass. It's a Warr guitar. Two of them, actually, along with the saz (usually guitar) and a drummer.
But it's awesome anyway.

Isnt it just a Dulcimer? i have 2 and they look completely different, but that kinda looks like mine in a way. They are really fun to play and pretty easy to catch on to.

Well, considering it wasn't made in Jerzy Drozd's custom shop, I think we can allow for a few rough edges.

seems like more of a novelty bit than a playable instrument, although looks can be deceiving. would have to hear some recordings to really judge for myself

Looks fun but also looks a bit badly made in the fingerboard region. Frets missing and frets that are a bit slanty compared to the others. Might be able to get that fixed though. Seems that particular one is more a display instrument than a playable one.

The plastic hardware is very tacky.
When Wishbass can make something this good, I'll get one.

 haha! Nice..
The hardware rules! its got ultralite tuners, a custom made leo quann bridge, and a secret composite material for the nut! :p It's also got what looks like fanned frets... either that or the guy fretting it was drunk.. :D

I guess I could pickaxe their brain with the headstock... then maybe slit their throat on the incredibly sharp edges of the frets? :p

They are just too busy making 1. Indian / jazz fusion, 2.Mediterranan tinged Jazz fusion and 3. Mediterranean folk jazz fusion
they all do world music, and so appreciate your instrument. You have the blessing of the guitar trio, and bassist extraordinaire Jonas Hellborg!
