Time for a thread from me, it's been a long time.
7 Seconds, if you didn't already know, are one of the longest running hardcore punk bands out there. They formed in 1979 and are still playing to this day, with all orginial members as far as I know. They are your standard 80s hardcore band with positive lyrics that help further the Youth Crew and Straight Edge scenes of the day. They are nothing but fun to listen to.
In the late 80s they changed their sound a bit for a more mellow and complex rock sound, but left that sound for their hardcore punk sound again in the 90s. The late 80s stuff is decent and interesting at most, but no where near their regular stuff.
If you haven't listened to them, you should especially if you like bands such as Minor Threat, Gorilla Biscuits and Youth Brigade
Recommended Albums:
The Crew
Walk Together, Rock Together
Take it Back, Take It On, Take it Over
Ourselves or Soulforce Revolution for the different stuff
Songs:
Young Till I Die
Cleanched Fists, Black Eyes

I'm so tired of 7 Seconds. After like six shows, they get old. Sac is like a second home to them, so they're down here a lot. The two punks on the cover of Walk Together, Rock Together are my buddies: Mickey Rat of the Secretions and his girlfriend. Oh, and, Kevin Seconds is a complete asshole. I've always been a fan of 7 Seconds' music, though.

You waited long for 21.
For me the fight has just begun.
You get in clubs, drink alcohol,
It makes you feel you're ten feet tall.
I don't wanna grow up,
I'm never getting old.
I'd rather work from 9 to 5
Than drink to stay alive.
I'm gonna stay young until I die!
You grew up fast, now you'll die soon.
I'll never ****ing be like you.
You finish college, grab a wife,
You're dead before you're 35.
I'm gonna stay young until I die!
So good. Amazing song.

I don't which of Walk Together, Rock Together and The Crew I like better. The title track of Walk Together is great, so is In Your Face and the infamous cover of 99 Red Balloons. But The Crew has Young Till I Die which is probably my favorite song by them, also Clenched Fists, Black Eyes, Colourblind, and What If There Is a War in America are all fantastic.
I think the albums are tied for me, as their greatest.
Ourselves sounds like an album full of how they sounded on the 99 Red Balloons cover.

I think Gorilla Biscuts are just a tad bit better than 7 Seconds because they had a seriously ground breaking album in Start Today. I'm not positive on taht since I know nothing of hardcore history, but it's ground breaking enough to me. 7 Seconds don';t have a stand out album to me though. The Crew, sure, but it's not like Start Today, where every song is catchy and awesome.
DaveToopes
03-26-2006, 08:36 PM
Well, Skrunnch, I feel that 7 Seconds were very influential and although they may not have a stand out album, I feel that they pioneered a new sound. That sound, is the positive hardcore/youth crew/straight edge sound and made it what is is today.
I must say, though, that both bands are very close in my book.
AIRIC
03-26-2006, 08:39 PM

Oh dear. I love 80's hardcore. I wish that more people in this forum liked it. Threads like my Government Issue thread and Dag Nasty thread and numerous other threads involving 80's hardcore should recieve more recognition but alas! It doesn't appear that this forum has the same love for the genre as you or I and several others do.

I love 80s hardcore. Along with the classics like DOA, Bad Brains, The Dicks, The Big Boys etc, there's too many overlooked bands like Black Market Baby, Shattered Faith, F, Jackshit, Gay Cowboys in Bondage, Los Olvidados, Fearless Iranians from Hell, Really Red, the Tar Babies, the Hates, the Nun****ers, Skate Death, 76% Uncertain, JFA, Free Beer, Pariah, Vatican Commandos and Squirrel Bait.

Squirrel Bait are amazing, they deserve props. I think they were the band that some members of Slint were in before Slint formed. Kid Dynamite is an amazing song.
