well, i want to buy a mark hoppus bass in about a week, but i want to get it white, but change the pickguard to black. well i found a site after browsing the internet forever, and they said that they made 2003 mark hoppus bass pickguards. but, i was wondering if the 2003 mark hoppus bass pickguard is the same as the 2006 bass, or whatever they r selling now on musicians friend and stuff... thanks

i'm guessing it should be able to fit if the bass hasn't had any design changes (which i doubt). one way to check is to see if the picjguard screws are in the same places in correspondence to the rest of the bass.

Ehmm.. I think so. It isn't something that they do want to change so fast. The body shape is a P bass if I'm right and those are kept pretty much the same the last 50 years.. :thumb:
Why do you want one?

the body shape is actually a jazz bass, but it looks like a p bass because the pickguard extends over the control plate. but, to answer the question y i want a black pickguard is because it looks too plain and ordinary with just a white pearloid pickguard on a white bass

I've had issues locating direct replacement pickguards. Rather than buying one that doesn't fit and is non-refundable, why not pay a luither or someone to custom cut one for you?
I know there is a service "Pickguardian" who you can send your pickguard to and they will use it as a template to cut the one you ordered.
Carey Nordstrand showed me a website where you can custom order practically any pickguard, but I do not remember the URL. Sorry.
I would imagine that the pickguards would be pretty much standardised.
One other thing, what other basses have you considered besides this particular one?

umm ive been through many basses and selling them because i decided i didnt like them. ive been through a p bass, a jazz bass, a mark hoppus bass... but i sold it because it was used and rusted... but i remembered it was an awesome sounding bass. right now, im also considering an aerodyne femder jazz bass, a regular p bass or anything else in my price range i would like

dont go crap on the bass becouse it have the name of Hoppus on it.... its actualy sound pretty good, and to be honest, how often do you use the tone control on a P bass?! Personaly i hate the sound of it closed...
http://www.terrapinguitars.com thats the page i got the mirror pickguard for my ex-fender geddy jazz.. i think they make other pickguards than what they have on that site on order...

There's more out there in the world of basses without sticking to the Fender range of P, J, P/J. Maybe that's all you can afford, but I mean, you could buy a used Fender or a new MIM and put new pickups in it and have it kicking some serious *** for little dinero gone from your bank account.

A bit sensitive are we? Explain to me where exactly I crapped out the bass. I merely asked if he had considered any other basses besides this one.

I use the tone knob all too much.
The Hoppus sounds nice, but far too bright. Nothing bad, though.
And the pickguard should be the same. I haven't heard of any changes in the bass or anything.

Sorry, i was just expecting it... People always start ragging on that bass becouse it have Hoppus's name on it and dont have a tone control... so i thought i would just defend it :p

I was thinking on buying a new pickguard from the site below. Anyways I was wondering if Fender American Standard P Bass Pickguards are the same (size, holes) as the MIM ones.

I, myself, wouldn't get the Mark Hoppus bass. It's a decent bass, but it's overpriced. In that range, there are many other basses that are better than it. That's my opinion... do what you want.

If you like the sound of the Hoppus just buy a MIM P bass and put in a SD Bassline "SPB-3 quarter-pound™ for p-bass®" it's the same pickup as the one in the Hoppus and you will save yourself some bucks.
Where in CA are you anyway?

Also, threadstarter, look into Japanese-made Precisions, if you may.

Good call on the MIJ/CIJ!
I've had a hard time locating them.
But since I am talking about modding, you could even go bargin basement with an SX and mod it and you will be on par with "better basses" but you will never get the return of the money spent should you sell.

No. Don't go SX. Please.

MIA is the best, then MIJ, then MIM.
But mexicans can be really good if you do a couple mods on them.

The lowest quality will be the MIM ones. But that's not to say they are bad basses. They won't fall apart and don't sound like crap. They are great basses, just don't use as high quality parts as MIA/MIJ.
Next would be MIJ/CIJ. These basses are said to rival MIA quality, for 2/3's the price. The only MIJ/CIJ bass I have ever played is the Geddy sig, and it is a mighty fine bass.
And then their is MIA. These basses use the highest grade parts of the bunch. They also come stock with the "S1" switch, which changes the pickups from serries to parallel and vice versa, and graphite renforced necks.
As for the best bang for the buck. Most would say MIJ. I'm personally just for getting a MIM and swapping out the pickups. Great tone, for half the price of MIA. You won't have the "S1" switch or the graphite renforced neck, but if you want to you could add both of those, and still come out ahead, not by much, but still ahead.

The people who say it are owners of CIJ Fenders, take in mind .
As much as I love the Sting sig, and the other P reissues, the CIJ just don't match the MIA series. Especially the jazzes; I can't stand the thin tone of the CIJ jazz basses (although I haven't played a MM sig).
Also, besides superior electronics (not pickups, as many CIJ use the same, just the rest), better tuners, better string-through bridge, their necks are also hand-made, if I'm not mistaken, and they have graphite reinforcements.
