Hey, my friend, Wil, made my record company a website, and I'm in charge of fixing it up...he just set up the address and the folder to edit it in. I need to put up a Bands page, and I want to have a sample of some of the music, only one song per band. How do I make it so that instead of opening a new window to play the sound file, or having it actually on the page, is there a way to have it so that it opens your default media player to play it, and doesn't allow you to save it? It's fine if you can just get it to open the default media player, but you can save it, but it would be GREAT if i could disable the "save target..." options

you could embed the media player in the page, or use the mms protocol, but that would cause problems on non-windows pc's. the best choice is to let people download the mp3 and listen to it however they want.

Embed is your best option. I can show you ways to force download attempts for native players if you have a prefered one.
I'm not sure about the actual disabling of "save target as..."

if i embed it on the page, is it possible to change the style of the player and make it so that it doesn't automatically play when the page loads?

Yes, I'm not sure how though.
You can disable right click easily, though.

Yeah its an arguement you send the embed. Look it up online, and if you don't get it post again in this thread on Wednesday. I have some HTML books on it that I can look through, the problem is that at the moment they are packed. I won't be all ready till Wednesday, the earliest.

still doesn't disable view source, if that's what you're getting at

well what good does view source do if they can't actually save it to the site? if they saved it to their own site, all that would happen would be a bunch of broken pictures or broken sound files and whatever text is on the web page

I would embed a Flash Player into your website and link it up to an XML file which contains the locations of the MP3's.

Thats my site. I got the code and player from a Flash site but I can't remember which one. Probably illegal as well hosting that music.

There is absolutely no way to stop people from downloading your songs, there's really no point in even trying to obfuscate the locations.
