Hey... I have been playing my first drum set for like two years now and it
is starting to get pretty beat up... It is a CB 6 piece (added a floor tom). But i was wandering on what type of drumset to get next, im not a begginer or anything, but i dont really know what kind of brands are reliable, durable and all that. Price range, anywhere from 400 to 700 or 800 dollars i guess.

Thanks.

I think you should save up some more because you want to upgrade to a pro set now. I think yamaha are relaible kits. What kind of music do you play? What cymbals and hardware do you use with your kit?

Sonor 3005
Sonor 2005
Sonor 3003 (if you can find one)
Mapex Pro M
Mapex M Birch
Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage
Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage Nouveau

I wouldn't recommend TAMA or Pearl. They are way too overpriced...

its like black metal... thats is melodic... but we are gonna add some folk influences as we progress. I have some ziljian cymbals and the hardware that came with the set

...What kind of zildjian cymbals and bass drum pedal. Saying you have zildjian cymbals doesn't say alot, if they're low grade upgrade.

I don't think you buy a new drum set if your cymbals and pedal are bah. If you put new heads on your drums they can sound good.

03-25-2006, 09:03 AM
Umm, im not sure the name of them, they are ok, but nothing special. I got them a long time ago and cant remember what i bought. Like i said earlier, i dont really know that much about brands. They are pretty low grade though i guess. They dont sound bad

Upgrade your cymbals before your set. A bad set is hard to pick out but bad cymbals stick out, if you tune your drums they will sound great. Do you have a double pedal?

xxrethxx
03-25-2006, 09:05 AM
Well i need a new drum set because the one that i have was kept outside in the shed that we play in and its rusting, so on the new one, im gonna take it inside after we play.

The double pedal i have, i got from my uncle, its a Ludwig something, not sure the number or whatever

go look at them and tell us what they say...if they say ZBT, ZXT, or Planet Z, don't get a new set, just replace the heads, maybe pedal, and cymbals...

if you saw the set that i am using im sure you would say get a new set first heh... the cymbals are still in good shape though and they sound ok

in that case, get one of the drumsets i suggested, they will all come with hardware so you should be fine.

Well my advice to you would be, get new hardware and heads for your drums, upgrade your pedal then your cymbals(pedal first because you said you play alot of black metal and cheaper pedals fall apart when you play fast and hard) then after you have good cymbals and pedal then upgrade your set, a good set could sound bad with bad tuning, thats what alot players don't understand. Even if you buy the best set in the world, you need to put in alot of work to get it to sound how you want it.

Good sets but the TS isn't ready to upgrade his set yet. I know a kid with a mapex orion and ZBT's. He also has a black panther hand hammered snare and uses aheads. Did I forget to mention that the orion sounds worse then my forum. No okay, well it does. I don't want to get started with this kid though, I think he does everything a different way just to be different, he doesn't sit in front of the throne, he has half his hamstring on the throne and I tell him that its not good because his back is arched... He doesn't listen.

Edit: to last post, what else do you want, we told you the drumsets out there. I still unrecommend your getting of a drumset.

im telling you man... this drumset is ****ty as you can get. most of the hardware has fallen off... I have remo heads on it, they are still good... all of the drums are rusty as hell, all of the stuff on it isnt good anymore... Its just better to get a new drumset, i have a good job, plenty of money, i was just asking for some suggestions on what to get.

Idk, if you really want a set I say go for a good yamaha set for about 1.2-1.5 that way it'll last you and sound great.

Those are more for jazz, get bigger sized toms maybe a tama rockstar would be good for you?

Rockstar check musiciansfriend. Theres also a double bass one available, but I don't think you want to lug around an extra bass drum.

In that case just get a decent set(over 500) that has big tom sizes because in black metal small toms won't cut it.

Honestly about that kit, if you want it, get it. I would strongly advise you against it, its barely better then a forum and $200 more. Not worth it. It may the most hated set on these forums.

If you find a good deal on Gretsch I would say check them out. They sound good and you dont need big drums just because you play rock.

Yeah go for that one, it seems pretty good. A bit pricey but your getting die cast hoops. These are harder to tune so watch out for that. It will most likely sound good though and tama hardware is good. It also has good tom sizes for the music you play. Good luck with your new set

To fl3p, he plays black metal, I'm sorry but if you had a high pitched alot of reso tom it would sound really out of place and wimpy. Its not like jazz where anything goes with tom sizes.

No problem, stay on the boards, you can learn alot from here, make sure to upgrade your cymbals after your set though, cheap cymbals don't cut through and are easy to hear especially if your recording.
