If your drum could, it would hug you and never let go.

woot, both toms done... took about an hour and a half to do. I actually had more trouble with the second tom. *shrug*

They do sound better, and dont look so cumbersome!

Doesnt hanging them with the mounting upside down like that kind of defeat the purpose of the mem lock? Flip it over!!

Actually sir, hanging them allows me to get them lower than I would if I had them upright.. also.. the only thing i've noticed the lock doing for me is prevent my toms from twisting on the post. It serves it purpose with them upside down aswell.

I 'hang' all my drums, on both kits I have.

*edit* also notice i only have one lock. the other broke.

ahh ic...why not put the mem lock on the bottom to keep it from sliding down in case it accidentally comes loose?

*shrug*

I dont think it ever will.

and if it did.. it will land on carpet. It's not my primary kit so i'm not that worried about it... maybe thats the reason I experimented with those toms and drilled holes in them so I wouldnt have to use starcast anymore. :smash:

It's amazing how much we've been brainwashed into thinking that hardware touching a drum is so bad.

notice any difference in sound?

Kainen

Wait...What'd you do?

the starcast mounting system hangs the toms from the hoops themselves, which distorts the rim and the drum head itself.

find some photos of a tama with the lower line of star cast mounting systems.

I've never been brainwashed into thinking that (except the big *** Pearl mounts that go straight into the drum, those are bad). I don't have iso mounts for my toms (Sonor 2001) but it sings beautifully, so I don't have any issues.

Good job man. Starcast's mounts aren't terrible, but aren't good for your drums in the long run.

I think that RIMS and OmniMounts look the best, but the YESS, TAR, and STM mounts sound the best.

yay exactly what I was thinking! then they will have a renewed purpose. they like it better on bottom anyway.

in that case keep thinking.... cause hes right ;)

pipe mounts just plain suck.

well, in comparison to everything else. yar. but they aren't so bad themselves still. *anti-flame suit go!*

I HATE my pearl mounts, They're such a pain in the ***.

But I really don't see a point in all the iso mounts they have either......althouh maybe they're easier to position. But I really dont have any experience.

in comparison ~ maybe.

but you cant honestly be defending pipe mounts are you? i mean weve been flaming those things (pearl, ludwig, rogers, sonor) since before there were forums to even flame on

im pretty sure next year TAMA is gonna again re-invent the star-cast system. they do now realize that hanging the drum from the batter rim is not a good idea. the new suspension system will now hang the drum from its badge using 3 hydraulic L-rods ;)

Ah yes i suppose hangin toms from their batter rims aren't good for them...after a while. I've had a pearl ISS and i haven't seen any effect. And it's oh so very convienent

ThugsRook
03-26-2006, 11:23 PM
hmmmm, i wonder how well starcast would work if you flipped it over and held the drum up from the reso rim insted?

could be ineresting, could be humorous :smash:

i would be the LAST to defend em. but for the CB and no name kits, we can't exactly custom order our mounts :p

haha man I'm in the process of refinishing my old CB MX kit. its my first attempt at re-doing a finish.. too bad it will still have pipe mounts.

on one of my no name shells i found on ebay, the guy actually removed the L-rod mount and drilled *a horrible oval* tube mount. i hate him.
