Firstly - What would be a good DVD for me to buy? I'm looking for something to give me inspiration, and to teach me. I dont want anything too advanced as Im not an advanced drummer. Simple but not beginner.

Secondly - I was thinking of doing a tailor made short course at Drum Tech (one in London). This would involve a 2 hr lesson (2 students, 1 teacher), an hour to go practice in their studios, another hours lesson and more practice and then some other stuff. This works out at about £90 per day. Has anyone been? Is it worthwhile? I cant find a teacher at the moment so am looking for other methods of being taught. (I cant find a teacher because I live on an Island where there are only about 4 teachers and none of them have any space at the moment.)

CHEERS!! :chug:

I went to audition for their degree course over a year ago and it made me realise how much I actually suck. It would definately be worthwhile as all the teachers are very well respected, professional musicians and I would imagine you would learn a lot, though it sounds quite intensive. All the big names visit there, Weckl, Carey, Chad Smith, Lombardo etc. so you may run into one of those guys.

Ask me how Drum Tech is sometime in November. I'll be able to tell you by then.

As for DVD's, what are you looking to improve on?

Great!! Hope you enjoy it and it is of help. :thumb:

All sorts!! Technique, phrases to play around the kit.... not 100% sure really. As I said before... nothing too hard but something to stretch me a little. Sorry I'm not more specific.

I find band DVD's are more beneficial than drumming ones, check out Rush in Rio, you'll be hooked, also see if any other bands that get thrown around the foru,ms havd DVD's, eg Dave Matthews band, Led Zeppelin, Sting etc.

Which is why I got assessed for the 1 year diploma. Seems I'm at just the right level. Score!

Well, have a look at this. If you like the look of it, you might think about getting it:

If not, just pinch the ideas straight from the site.

the groove essentials dvd is a good one. i learned some stuff from it, mostly because it shows grooves in styles i normally don't play. there's a little bit of it on the vic firth web site, but not much.
