Hey guys thought I'd share this with you. I play a game called Planetside. It is a massive multiplayer online first person shooter (mmofps). It is normally a subscription game (12 bucks a month), but the devs have launched a new program called Planetside Reserves. Basically you get to play this game (plus the expansion pak) for FREE for 12 months, no charge at all. Completely free. There is a limit to how high you can go (ranking system, sorta like BF2 but a lot more involved). But you have no limit in places you can go in the game. it is completely free. so, come check it out. Planetside needs you! If you like the game you will be able to upgrade with your subscription and keep your demo character going.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1880454872028901921&q=Planetside

Here is a movie of the game. teamwork, massive battles. check it out guys. Clans (called outfits) are setup ingame, so you can just get the game, pick a team (out of three very different sides), and join an outfit, and roll with hundreds of other people on your team (if you join a group that big, there are smaller tactical outfits as well). If shooting is not your thing there are plenty of other roles to choose from, like medic, engineer, Infiltrator, Command, Anti Air, Anti Vehicle, Vehicle driver/gunner, Pilot, etc. Anyways check it out.

It looks kinda like a mix of Halo and Star Wars Battlefield. Cool none the less. I might get it. Do you have to go out and buy it or is it a download?

How many certification points can you get by BR6? I had a free trial once and I dont remember what BR I got to. I might download if its alot though.

Rounder
03-24-2006, 09:48 PM
I think br6 gets you 11 certs now. Theyve reworked the cert system a little. 11 certs is not too bad. that's plenty enough to get into the battle, and not be watching everyone else have fun.

medium assault- (2 certs) includes an empire specific rifle, a shotgun, and a shorter range rifle with a grenade launcher.

Rexo suit (3)- (there are 4 different types of body armor, this is the largest and the strongest, to hold plenty of ammo, for heavy foot-soldier battles.

AV (3)- Depending on which 'empire' you choose, (all empires have empire-specific weapons totally different from each other, one of the coolest things about the game, as well as a source of whining, as with any game). This is a shoulder carried missile type launcher, each empire with different advantages.

mosquito (3)- a scout aircraft (with a chaingun :) )

with br 6 you can have all this, this would be a typical foot soldier setup. (you should get at least one vehicle, the terrain can be massive, although if you join an outfit they will most likely have some sort of transportation.

You could also get plenty of vehicles if you prefer driving or flying. Basically you will be able to get any specialty group (except the 'mechs' (bfrs). you cant get one with the 'demo'.

You could also get an infiltrator setup, that would allow to be be invisible (although your armor suit is made of paper) you can sneak into enemy bases and hack vehicles, or get combat engineering, with the ability to lay auto-turrets, mines, enemy sensors, and the Boomer, sorta like C4 in BF2.

There are Max units, a mini mech slightly larger than a foot soldier, the NC max reminds me of that mech thing Ripley used in Alien.

the aircraft, you have a mosquito, a scout craft with a mean chaingun excellent for air to air and taking out troops, and the Reaver, the gunship (like that other vehicle from aliens.) they look like jets, fly like helicopters. These are not by any means the only vehicles in the game. There is a class for everything imaginable, including ATV's, Troop transports, bombers, transport aircraft, Tanks, mobile spawning units, mobile artillery vehicles, etc..

Each empire has its own backstory, when you get the game it will go through the storyline real quick, but basically

New Conglomerate- I'd call this the USA of the empires, focused on freedom from the oppressive TR and the technogical heretics of the Vs, Their weaponry is all about more punch, is usually slower rate of fire/higher damage rate, pretty noticable with the NC Heavy Assualt weapon, The Jackhammer, a triple barreled shotgun that can fire a quick triple shot burst that can drop lightly armored soldiers in one shot.

The Terran Republic, The Original Empire that believes in Law an Order, and is fighting to bring all the rebelling forces back under its control. Their military style is more of a higher ROF, with a little less damage per shot, and their vehicles can carry 2 gunners instead of one (where applicable, some vehicles hold lots of passengers/gunners) The TR heavy assault weapon resembles a gatling gun.

The Vanu Sovergnty- these guys are all about technology and mobility, without going into detail they have absorbed the technology of an ancient alien species (the Vanu) and have very different weaponry than the other 2 empires. A lot of their vehicles tend to hover, and their version of max units have the unique ability to jump pretty high. The VS Heavy Assault weapon is the Lasher, that shoots out massive ricocheting lasers.

Remember try to join up with a squad, and an outfit, An outfit is a permanent group of people that you play with, and your outfit name will appear under your name so you can recognize who is in your group, Then their is squads, (like bf2) where you can group with people from any outfit (if you join a large enough outfit you will most likely squad with them). Then there is the platoon, which is multiple squads grouped together. (yea, bf2 schmeeftoo they don't know sh1t about teamwork).

http://psforums.station.sony.com/ps/board?board.id=psnewplayers

There is the new players guide in the PS forum, it will help you much more than I can. Just remember, although the game has a steeper learning curve than your average shooter, it makes for a more involved game, and most players are more than willing to help you out, don't be afraid to ask. If all else fails, grab a gun, point it at the guy whose name is in red and kill him.

I heartily recommend trying out this game. I've played it, and there's simply nothing like it. It's not a crappy RPG where your character's stats determines who wins, but instead it's your tactics and aim that let you win.

It's a simply massive scale. When you're in the zerg, it can get pretty intense. Hundreds of players fighting with and against you in the same space as a large CS map, along with vehicles and aircraft. It's pretty cool.

I play Werner TR if anyone wants to squad up in game.

This game is pretty bad tbh

RE: Necronomicon

That doesn't mean the game's terrible :P

But I see what you're saying. I think MMORPGs are terrible, because all you get to do is level grind, and you have to grind in order to compete with other players (and competing with other players is half the fun of an MMO). But I love PlanetSide because all characters do the same damage, take the same damage, and have the same everything so long as they have the same guns and armour (any gun or armour though).

The only difference between a high level guy and a low level guy is that the high level guy has more variety in what weapons he can pick.

It adds to the realism of a PC game? How? I don't understand what you mean there.

If players' stats are dependant on ther level, then although it might be possible for a low level to compete against a high level, doesn't the high level have an advantage over the low level given they have the same equipment?

there are other sites that are hosting the file. The devs are pretty busy atm trying to find an easier way for people to get going. No, you don't have to out in a CC number to play. Even if you decide to sub, you can get a PS game card from a store.

Those that join you can look me up in game and add me as a buddy and show you the ropes. I'll ask my outfit leader if we are recruiting, and if we are and you are not a tool we'll get into an outfit. If you want to 'level' up fast, you need to be in a squad btw, squad members share XP (experience points, you get them for kills and successful game hacks.)

btw, Ive never really stated how the game works...

Its all about territory. Your goal is to hack and hold different bases on the map and move to the next base in the 'lattice' and hack and hold that base, and so on. Once you get all the bases on the map, you have a continental lock and it turns the color of your empire, then you move on to another map. The expansion pack is similar but different, instead of taking place on the ground, it takes place in caves. The caves also allow you access to special weapons. Plus, Each base has a specialty, once you hold a base, your empire will now get special abilities. An example, if you take a tech plant, you are able to get 'tech' vehicles, (the really heavy tanks, and reavers). If you hold a Dropship center you engage special pads that will heal your vehicle when next to it. Not only that, but as you go through the base lattice, ALL your CONNECTED bases will have the special ability.

Each base has a generator, and a spawn room. If an enemy infiltrator takes down the generator, you can no longer spawn, use the Vehicle Terminals, and you will lose the special base ability (enter strategy). If they take your spawn, you will still be able to 'use' the base, you just can't spawn there, this is mostly done once the enemy has completely taken over your base, have it hacked, and want to force you to spawn elsewhere....btw everything in the game, spawns, gens, terminals, vehicles, soldiers, everything can be repaired by Engineers. (they can repair soldier armor, you still need a medic to repair your health, and an adv medic can revive you if you die. If your in a battle and you see someone spamming ADV MED DON'T TAP!! he means don't click on the bar to respawn at a spawn point, he can revive you, just lie there.

Each day the empire with the most bases held is declared the winner for that day.
