I've put together a quick, experimental jam-session track of me singing, playing trombone, and doing a (weird) bit of beat-boxing. I'm planning to make some more (longer and better and properly arranged), but I would like to know from the get-go if I am doing anything horrendously wrong, or anything right.

EDIT
Sorry!!! Forgot to link to it. GET IT HERE (http://www.nfomation.com/uploads/Jam.mp3)

So far, these things I know are problems with the current recording (don't read these until you've heard the track though!):

1. Discrepancy in volume for the tracks
2. Slightly off-beat looping
3. Not exactly the best arranged track, but it's only improv after all with an end bit tacked on (an experiment, let's say)

I'm using a $20 condenser mic from Jaycar, which seems to be able to pick up bass very nicely. With windows +20 decibel boost turned on though, it seems to pick up all the fan noise from the computers in the room, so I turned it off to do all my recordings. Also, I do not have it on a stand (yet).

For the beat-boxing I had it very close to my mouth, for the trombone - as far away as possible without losing the sound or distorting it.

The room I'm currently in is much too echo-ey for brass (I dunno, I like the way it sounds fuller), so I may have to do it some place else in future. I'm not sure - what do you guys think?

Yes, I do know about volume envelopes with CEP, but I did not use them for this mixdown. Do you have any tips on right/wrong ways of using these?

I'm not planning to use samples or MIDI at all - I want to make everything from original sound-bytes I do myself. The main problem I've had so far is getting the looping to stick to the beat correctly. I personally don't believe I need a real set of drums to do a recording with a beat since 'the beat' can be anything...

Thanks in advance for any advice! :)

I've been working on another track on and off for the past couple of weeks. I think I addressed most if not all of the problems in the first recording.

Do you think it's an improvement, or is it too cluttered?

Oooh, shutdown. I think I made it pretty clear that they were experiments, and that it wasn't very serious. You coulda been a bit nicer...

Anyhow, I learned an INCREDIBLE lot doing these ones. That was the main reason I did them. The next one I do will be quite serious - planned from the start with proper lyrics, a tune, and different verses etc. It won't be much improv at all... AND, it will be much better paced and everything... No more all voices going at once...

Ha I don't know why but something about this really appealed to me; it made me smile :) Your voice reminds me of the Sims.

I've noticed all you do is go around pretentiously pontificating.
Get a life, and stop using frank's image in vain.

no my feelings were not hurt.
I merely pointed out that you come off as pretentious and you have a
tendency to pontificate, meaning that you are so self-important as to think
that your word is the be-all end all.
Just a vibe you give off.
Did I touch a nerve? As for any constructive criticism you may think you're offering, well, since when has self-indulgence helped anyone, except to figure out when to fart? I had taken your critiques as useful until I noticed you have the same message for everyone, always low sphere of emotions, which imo makes you a dishonest fart.

Don't be a hypocrite. You can take it.
There's nothing you can't take.
Its part of your pathology.

He he, thanks man. Actually, I dunno whether to take it as a compliment that I remind you of the sims...

Uh, you didn't give an opinion. You gave an indirect insult. I can take insults, but they really have no place here. Plus, even though Bee sharp went the other direction and somewhat complimented me, he still gave a bit of constructive criticism. I got no such vibe from you...

@ seph, thanks man. This guy looks a little like a troll.
