Discuss Cowbells. Suggest cowbells to people similiar to what goes on in the cymbal finder.
I really love cowbells. In any musical style they can really strengthen the quarter note pulse in a really different way to other voices on the kit. Cowbells can push the groove with a sharp ring , a heavy clunk and many other great tones.
LP makes great cowbells. from the earsplitting LP cha cha bell to the sweet mambo cowbell to the clunky Rock Ridge Rider.
one model i would stay away from is the small ridge rider ; the small bell's high pitched sound is really restricted by the ridge and makes for a weak sound.
one great thing about cowbells is that generic cowbells can make a great sound you would be surprised for the price. BUT the LP bells really have a signature sound you cannot get anwhere else.
I like the LP black beauty , its a great classic , all round sound:thumb:
Also had a generic bell that was AMAZING!. It had a black hammertone finish
I miss it sorely...
I want to get another cowbell. One maybe that isnt so dang loud. I have a DW gon bops timbale cowbell. Its really really loud and not too good for solo work but it blends well with loud music. I want to get another one anyway so i can have one to play with stick and one connected to a pedal. Move the DW to a pedal and probably get a Meinl HH cowbell or something.

Certain types of cowbell seem to be really loud and cut. Generally the Large models are Fat and Low , while the smaller sizes cut with bright tones.
if you think your cowbell is loud and cutting then check out the LP CHA CHA BELL! hehe
The Meinl HH Bronze models are quite tonal and ring alot. ( I personally) would apply small muffling in certain situations to those bells. They have a unique flavour and are worth a look.
The Kenny Arnoff Model is Fat and Big ,Playing with the shoulder on the mouth its not really sharp or cutting with a little muffling it will give a fat toney clunk with a lot muffling it didnt sound very good to my ears like it wanted to escape. Without muffling it has a fat tonal great ring. The stick tip sound i was not too fond of due to weird stick definition but it could be your flavour.
I would check out the LP Black Beauty.......its not too loud , and a nice classic cowbell sound , to me its the "most versatile/fitting" cowbell you could work into anything almost!
If your looking for a chunky sound go for the rock ridge rider

I'm wanting to get a couple of cowbells. I think I've deciding on getting an LP black beauty. I've always liked that one. I want to get another though, but I'm not sure what to get. I'm not too picky on what I want out of it. I just know I want it too be low pitched. I don't want it to be too loud or cutting. And I'll be playing it with my foot...if that makes a difference. Could you suggest 2 or 3 for me to try out?

Everyone knows I rep the Cha Cha.
Usually though, the cheaper the better, more ring to 'em. There's this really wide plastic one made my Toca I think at my local store, it's amazing. I'm just afraid I'm going to break it with my playing at home.

Generic cowbells can be good, although, they don't usually have a specific sound.
