The Godfather: The Game

I just got the game today for the Xbox. This is one of the only movie based games that I enjoy. I only played it for a few hours, but it seems like it could be great. The graphics are good, the controls are pretty easy to work with and the way the encorporate your character into the movie plot is pretty cool.

At first I was skeptical. Most movie games aren't great and the vast number of GTA clones are mediocre compared to the GTA games. I think this game does a good job with the free roam mode. You can go into most buildings, bribe officers and offer protection to local businesses. When you are not playing missions, you can find ways to keep yourself busy. They did a good job making the game feel different from GTA, but at the same time, also having the elements from the sucessful series included in the game play.

It also has a little RPG style gaming thrown in. You design your character and increase his skills as you go along. I don't play RPG's but thats what my friend told me.

If you are a fan of the movies and any other mob movies, GTA and any of its clones, I recommend picking it up. So far my only problem is that Al Pacino refused to be in the game (same for the Scarface game thats still under going work) and that New York City could have been represented more accurately.

Does anyone plan on picking it up?

I just dled it. Gamespot gave it a pretty good review and it seems like it could be pretty fun to go around beating up people who don't give you your payments.. especially after watching the Sopranos. :cool:

Thats what I thought, but when I was playing it, it was much better than I anticipated. Its no GTA or Half-Life 2, but it doesnt suck.

I like the controls. At first I thought the punching was wierd, but now it feels like second nature to me.

This game IS awesome. The combat system is a bit weird but it seems pretty good. The different executions are sweet, as well as bashing people into random objects.

I'm dying a lot because I'm a little slow at getting used to different controls. It's especially hard because I'm using my XBOX controller and I have no idea what the button numbers are. It's pretty easy to figure out, but harder to remember when you're in the middle of a shootout. :(

And how do you get to the save menu Necro.. I just press the save button and it saves.

Wow, I played in a bit deeper to the point where most options are open, and this game is amazing. It's rivaling GTA atm.

I just got up to the point were you meet Michael at the hospital and fight off the assasins. Im working on Tessio's hit list and extroting businesses before I go on with the main story.

Oh man, this game is epic. I was in one of my shops when about 3 gooks from another family came in and shot everyone to hell. I ducked under the counter and ended up taking out two. The last one tried shooting at me while I walked up to him, but I guess he ran out of ammo because he put his gun away. I pulled out my pistol and shot him in the kneecap, then got a headshot. This game has an awesome feel to it.

The executions are sweet too. Some are hilarious. Like 'traffic accident' and a couple others I forget.. oh yea where you shoot a guy near a balcony or something and he trips backwards and over it hahah. They're badass too.. like the one where he shoots the guy in the stomach (I think) and as the guy bends over he unloads in the back of the head.

I'm finally getting used to the controls. I'm almost done with all the main missions but I'm only about 34% through the game. I wish you got more money when you do bank heists though.. it's kinda pointless to do it for only 5k. I'm saving up for the assassins pistol but it's 250k! :eek:

I just got past the part where Sonny dies.

I love this game.

I was taking over a shop and I strangled two of the guys and shot one through the glass window with my shotgun.

My health was pretty low, and when I was trying to threaten the owner, I saw another gangster out of the corner of my eye whip out a shot gun from outside behind the glass. Before I had the chance to do anything, he shot straight through the glass and annihilated me.

It sucked but I also laughed my *** off.

I don't know why. He helped choose the guy who did his voice though. He's doing the same thing for the Scarface game.

How far are you in the game? I dont recall killing any Dons unless you mean Tessio's hit list.

Well, it took me a little over 14 hours to become Don. I've done all the execution styles, and am about 75% done with the entire game but I don't really have any reason to complete it. All I have left are businesses to extort and a couple warehouses to seize. I read when you become Don of NYC, you get a million dollars and unlimited ammo.. but since you've already cleared all the gangs out, the unlimited ammo is pretty much useless. Oh well, it was a really fun game while it lasted but it's a good thing I didn't pay for it. :lol:

Ok, I have now played this game, it is now my favorite video game of all time. Must. Purchase.
