Hey I'm from the guitar forum, so I know absolutely nothing about bass. :)
My friend has just got a bass (he had been playing for a while, then stopped, and is now playing again) and he got a kinda cheap bass, so that he could get a decent amp. Price range about £400-600. Whats the best bass amp for that price for him?

i reccomend looking into behringer
What is the amp going to be used for?
- Gigging?
- Practice?
If for gigging, what sort of sized venue will you be performing in?

look into Gallien Kruger (sp??) the backline series, they are good and pretty cheap.

For that price range!? That's like double USD here: $800-1200.
I think you guys need to re-think those suggestions.

It will be used mainly for practise, but if he ever gigs, he wont bother buying an amp just for gigging, so he wants something he can crank.

£400 - 600 could easily buy a decent amp over here.
For 600 look into ampeg combos perhaps a BA 115, that is a really decent amp. Second hand wise have a look through http://www.electromusic.co.uk/bassguitars/en-gb/dept_294.html for a bargain.
Have a look at the Fender Bassman 250/210 combo

I second that. It's a really great amp. I've played it extensively at a local music stop (came very close to buying it).

Ashdown MAG half stack. Or maybe a higher ashdown model, not sure how much they are. But a MAG will cost between £300-400. I think.

I loves my behringer bx3000t... very reliable... I've had it for like a year and a half now, and I've pushed it to the limit a countless number of times, and she's still going strong.
