:) Alright so i have two question's for you guy's.

1) If i want to use a different mode rather then ionian/major scale, say dorian for example does it HAVE to start on the second note or can it start on any note?

2) I have the mag300 combo and i was wondering if anyone else that owns this head could give me some good tips on how to get a good fingerstlye and slap tone?

Thanks

well for slap, i'd give you the generic "drop your mids", but i personally like boosting mids for slap and also fingerstyle so try that....

and to answer the first question, no it doesn't have to start on the second note...but it should probably include it every once in a while, because those 7 notes could be in any of the 7 modes....ya i didn't give a very clear answer did i...

i guess i didn't help...experiment with your sound, there's no obvious solution that says "for slap tone on an ashdown do this"....if you want an origional tone so do it yourself...

The dorian scale by definition is comprised of a whole step, a half step, whole, whole, whole, half, whole. Which is the same as if you started on the second note of the ionian scale. When I'm playing in dorian I tend to think of it as it's own scale, as opposed to thinking of it as ionian from the second scale degree.

Just so you know, there's a theory thread in this forum to answer questions like your first one. Glad someone could help you though.

I don't think I would use Dorian mode over your C major, because its a minor scale. You can try Mixolyidian mode, just see if the b7 sounds ok over the song. You can even try using the A natural minor over it, (I know I said don't use dorian because its minor, but the A natural minor is the parellel (is that correct) scale to the C minor Scale.)

..but the A natural minor is the parellel (is that correct) scale to the C minor Scale.)

A natural minor is the relative minor to C major. C minor is the parallel to C major. :) Right frame of mind, just a bit mixed up.

well if you were in C minor you could use F dorian.... and if you were in C major, D dorian

i believe c minor would have a dorian of d as well c major would also be d

the key of c minor, means Cm = Aeolian = 6th degree of key of Eb;

Eb - Ionian
F - Dorian
G - Phryigian
Ab - Lydian
Bb - Mixolydian
C - Aeolian
D - Locrian

For the slap tone, just set everything flat and work your way form there to something that you like.
