Well, I know I'm a stick in the mud (what ever that means...) but I think they could be pretty good if that guy would just shut up...

.....Wow.
They're horrible.
I think they tried really hard to be goofy and catchy. Not a fan of the brass work, vocals, guitar, or anything, really...not really my style, but meh, to each their own.

^ You try screaming and making everything sound perfect...it's a lot tougher than you guys give credit for. Try it. I dare you.
By "screaming" I mean any vocal technique other than singing; screaming, growling, gutterals, throating, shouting, etc.
-Gav
Please don't make me go into my pages of vocal technique and vowel pronounciation in the context of screaming and gut yelling.

^ Truth...:thumb:
Sade and I know where it's at...it really is tough, but we digress.
I listened to them for a THIRD TIME and couldn't get into it...that kinda music just sorta annoys me. It's not my cup of tea. :thumb:
I've never heard of them either, which is really weird, seeing as I'm really big when it comes to the local music scene...

^ I'm not a fan of his voice, either, if that's what you mean. :thumb:
I think his scream's pretty bad but the technique to do it is tough.

What is gut yelling?
What is gut yelling?
A technique of harsh vocals involving pitch sustain and control. Basically, sing a note. Then compress your diaphram and push more air into the vocal without changing the pitch. This will result in the pitch becoming "distorted" and harsh sounding. A technique made famous by Louis Armstrong.

yea I know these guys I saw them in connecticutt a while ago. I think there a pretty good band, there live show is a lot better than their recordings. Its not everyones cup of tea, but its always good to hear ska bands making music that doesnt sound like the ordinary ska band.

Yeah, I went back and listened to some more of it, and it just confirmed my original impression. That guy should shut up, he's ruining an otherwise decent band...

I think the problem some of you guys have is that you take things a bit too seriously.....Of course they aren't the best band in the world yes they have faults but lets stop being pretentious for a second. They have a pretty original sound, their songs are composed pretty well. And the singing isn't the worst I've heard, they are primarily a live band but do you not feel the energy coming from the speakers? You guys need to chill out and remember what music is for entertainment, not dissection.

oh, i really like them overall, but i just wasn't a fan of their singer/screamer.
:amaze:
I never thought I'd agree with the threadstarter more. It's funny too, because the majority of people that dissect on this forum are no-talent idiots who cannot correctly play 8th notes.
Like me, for instance.

EDIT: I better put this in since about 90% of you won't get it: SARCASM.

moments of it were really cool and reminded me of the locust, melt banana and headwound city.. and they list some of those bands as their influences.. but i wasnt too keen on the punky ska feel..
